Some songs are pretty catchy, but this album as a whole doesn't deliver.

As much as I like Barlow, Iced Earth when you get right down to it is the Jon Schaffer Project. And it doesn't really matter who's performing the material if it sucks.
Basically.

I asked my dad to bring to be to progressive nation (at a venue about an hour from my house) and he did, even though he's not huge on the music.
lol when we went to go see Radiohead my friend was working at a summer camp like 3 hours away so she had to get a ride down and back the day of the concert

Also, the album cover is hilariously bad. The thing on it looks like the child of Lord Zedd from Power Rangers and Eddie from Iron Maiden
also looks like an iron maiden cover/tour poster/picture but i can't remember which one

I didn't like this album much either.

It was a case of them riding a dead horse.

Just finish off the something wicked shite and do a brand new record without doing sequels.

Doesn't look to appealing. But I've never really liked anything IE made. Tried to, but just couldn't.

The fact that metalreview gave this album an almost perfect score is pretty laugahble, not too mention holding Bloodrunk in high regards. Guess I won't get this after all. Didn't like Crucify The King.

Sucks for Tim. He got kicked out of two bands because the original lead singer came back. Him and Blaze Bayley should get together and form a band.

that would be a pretty good double vocalist band actually.

It would be like 3 Inches of Blood except less gay.

I think this is actually Iced Earth's best work this decade. Crown of the Fallen, I Walk Alone, Harbringer of Fate, Crucify the King, Sacrificial Kingdoms, Divide and Devour, and Come What May are all excellent tracks that combine the best parts of Framing Armageddon and The Horror Show. More importantly, Crucible of Man actually makes Framing Armageddon more interesting. The pointless last track of Framing Armageddon and intro of Crucible of Man actually make a cool segue piece when played back to back and the change in vocalists actually perfectly captures the cahnging tones of the albums. Though I'm probably in the minority, I think this is a near-complete return to form for Iced Earth.

Perhaps the reason they haven't yet is because such an album would be so aggressively awesome that it might leap out of the speakers and murder you.
Barlow can hit high notes fairly well (though he'll never beat Owens in this department), and in "Divide and Devour" he utilizes a thrashy bark, but his real strength lies in his low ranged singing.
I agree with this part, sans the part about Tim hitting higher notes (Matt can, and has, hit higher notes than Ripper can) and that's about it. It's not the same Iced Earth template as the past but there's plenty of good songs on here (Behold the Wicked Child, Gift or Curse, Come What May) and Matt's performance is exactly what the band needed after the last album. If I wanted another gallop-fest I would listen to Something Wicked This Way Comes. This Message Edited On 09.09.08

I liked this better than the past few records. Nothing makes me happier than Barlow's return on this. Jon seems to have remembered that he could write songs at a pace other than mid-tempo. Not stellar by any means, but a step in the right direction. I've been afraid that Schaffer had burnt himself to a crisp creatively, but mediocre is better than god awful.

While I agree that it's not some glorious reuniting or anything, I don't think it's that bad...I was torn between 3 and 3.5, though I will say I probably should switch it to three. When they do a song right, it's like hitting a nail on the head...but the fact that the record is laden with these 2-minute or so "nothing" songs, that are pretty much just leading into the bigger, somewhat cool/awesome songs...it's just messy.

Hearing Barlow again was cool (...I came into IE first on Rippers material...than backtracked and figured everything out and happen to like both). Oh well, it's over and done music wise...hopefully they take some time for the next album and it'll just be a kick-ass regular release. I am seeing them live in a few weeks though, so that'll be cool.
