I have to respectfully disagree with Meatplow's review. It sounds to me like he's trying to analyze this album in the same way that he might approach any other album. This is an opera ... and so that would be like comparing apples to oranges.

I think this is a wonderful album, but like many operas, it has to be listened to as a piece, a whole. I like to listen to it when I run. It's perfect for that. If you're familiar with the Monkey story, this is a treat. If you're not, maybe you should be. As Meatplow himself says, this is one of the 4 classic Chinese stories. China has 1.4 billion inhabitants ... maybe we should all be more familiar with their classic fables. Perhaps this wonderful album provides a door to one of them.

Just give it a listen. It's a wonderful, fizzy, dark and threatening collection of songs, and I really really like it.This Message Edited On 09.16.08

Wow! You lot are f'in harsh. This is a very creative effort, I'd like to see any of you lot go to the lengths Albarn did to create this unique piece of brilliance. I think you're all trying to outcriticise each other a bit too much. Get over yourselves
