obviously ghost of perdition rules but the rest of the album is just good, even boring like the second half of the great conjuration or almost all of atonement.

Watershed is one of their best albums since Blackwater Park IMO.

Ghost Reveries had some of Mike's best growling though.

watershed was a good album but the only thing that pissed me off was the way mikael described it "dark, heavy, complex" as u said. something was just missing with this one. GR, Deliverance, Damnation, and of course the classics are far superior.

sometimes I think I'm the only one who believes the new path they've chosen here is a great step forward for the band. I like this almost as much as Blackwater Park tbh and I do really hope they will continue to work into that art rock (art metal?) direction

also I don't agree about the album being repetive. I think it's that kind of post-rock repetiveness that does make sense and that does work, especially with Hex Omega.

and the only thing saving it from being a total blow-out is a nice drum riff during the chorus

I think you mean "Drum Fill". Props for realizing that this part of 'Porcelain Heart' is awesome.

Nice review. Judging by what you have written, I think you went into this expecting it to be really heavy, which most people probably thought after reading Mikael's blogs before the album was released. I think you miss the point of Opeth if you go in expecting the expected! Just a thought.

I expected it to be enjoyable, so I know I missed the point ;) This thing just drags.

Only Opeth album I listen to on a semi daily basis. Burden is too damn good not to play in the car.

I like the second and third track, that is why it got a 3 instead of any less.
