I can see why some people consider ‘Division’ a step down from previous album ‘The Autumn Effect’, since it’s a little too polished & could do with some of the moody aggressiveness that was on the previous LP. Plus, some of the subtle experimentation does not really add anything, while the more literal lyrics tread a fine line with corniness (especially the closer).
Yet, there is a satisfyingly immediate & infectious quality to most of the tracks here & the album flows so well. Furthermore, no matter what the tone & theme of each track, the band (especially lead vocalist Jesse Hasek) always seems sincere. This ultimately makes ‘Division’ another excellent album from 10 Years. In other words: I’m such a sucker for this kind of stuff. Recommended Tracks: 11:00am (Daydreamer), Actions and Motives, So Long Goodbye & Dying Youth.

I can see why you would think that Tom, but I mainly disagree. This is much more consumer friendly than 'TAE' (which is probably why people don't think so highly of it). 'TAE' is much moodier... In a way, more heavier (at least from an atmospheric perspective). While the themes aren't exactly positive here, they are not delievered in as moody a way. I rate the albums about the same.

That's all true, I'll grant you that. But...I dunno, maybe its just the interlude at the end of songs that gets me. It served a purpose on TAE, whereas here they seem to be doing just because it worked last time. Same as how Beautiful is basically a re-write of Wasteland.
TAE is my favourite mainstream rock record though and this can't touch it.

As much as I am usually a lead single kinda guy, I am not a huge fan of 'Beautiful' at all... Where-as I still see 'Wasteland' as their best song.
Fair call on the interludes. They don't bother me a great deal... & I actually really like the way the guitar speeds up at the end of 'Picture Perfect'.
I'll be getting into their newie over the next couple of days, so it will be interesting to compare.

Got it early. I think there are actually 1 or 2 reviews around the net already. I wanted to go through their discog thoroughly before listening to it though.

The real reason why I love this album so much is I know exactly where Jesse is coming from with this lyrics and I know exactly what was going through his mind when he was writing the lyrics because I have also had a moment in my life where I felt all he expresses in this album so strongly. An artist is supposed to express himself in his art and that is exactly what Jesse does in this album. Well it may have not been as great as TAE(which BTW was a real classic) but it was still an amazing album with plenty of highlights.
