A very good album. Too bad it's Trents last as NIN.

So I'm just commenting here for the sake of commenting...but is "The Day the World Went Away" an original by Nine Inch Nails? Cause I know it's NIN that sings it in the Terminator Salvation trailer and that song is soooo gooddd
EDIT: nvm just figured it out. Well this means I'm getting "The Fragile" now then.

I quite enjoyed this.
Especially since it was free...

Great album, due to the fact that Reznor is a musical genius.

‘The Fragile’ (a masterpiece) and to a lesser extent ‘Year Zero’ showed that once in a blue moon a mainstream album can transcend the barriers of pop culture by actually being creative and having depth. This on the other hand comes off as a second-rate rehash of previous NIN material.
The Four of Us Are Dying is one of the strongest songs here but why listen to it when it doesn’t even begin to compare with the instrumental/ambient tracks found on the Fragile??

I've been listening to it for about a year now and for the longest time I thought it was a solid album and a nice addition to NIN's catalogue but nothing special (I had it around the 3.5 range). But in the past couple months its actually become one of my favorite albums. Not necessarily an all time fave but one that is just so much more enjoyable for me than most others. Originally there were quite a few tracks that I didn't care for but now I can find a lot to love in each and every song. It's actually a suprisingly diverse album and a pretty good one considering Reznor made it in three weeks and released it for free.

A good album, I really feel like it's Trent challenging himself to just let loose and record an album quickly. I've read articles that describe him as being tedious in the studio and an extreme perfectionist, which I think might account for his long gaps between records. I think the result is great! A heavy record in many places, but is kind of comfortable in a NIN-lite kind of way. In a strange way I kind of hope that this is the last of NIN. I think Trent did kind of paint himself into a corner and I really can't imagine what NIN could do that would be at all original anymore? Time for a new project-methinks.

Fantastic review, very well detailed and extremely concrete - I had no trouble at all picturing in my head what The Slip would sound like. Hats off to you.

Patience totsy. Their day will come soon. Trent won't allow it quite yet.

Demon Seed is one of my fav's. And I absolutely love the second half of Head Down.
I'm still a sucker for Echoplex though.

Oh yeah. The first time those clicked for me I was listening to this late at night when I couldn't sleep and I was just drifting along with the songs. It was really nice.

What's with the 3.4 average? This album is high 3.5-low 4 easy and it's unquestionably much better than With Teeth.
