That's not surprising, the album isn't very good even for the time.

This is the only PL album I haven't heard, and I mean to keep it that way.

Hmm. This album has very few hooks at all in it and it's very raw and heavy. I've heard a lot of death metal and this album was a tough listen to digest. There's some good stuff in this but I think the lack of any hooks is what is killing this album. Nick Holmes has some pretty awesome growls though. I can see why this is rated poorly. I'll give it another listen sometime as I don't like disregarding a band's first album. Listening to their second atm.

good review; i agree with everything you wrote, especially about nick's vocals; if there's a reason for which it happens to me to get through this album once again it's surely nick with his guttural and powerful style; i always considered his growl 'friendly' due to its depth and clarity; despite its monotony it succeeds to be the driving force of the album somehow (provided that you dont listen to the lyrics, haha); musically, most of these songs there is simply unlistenable, and none of them really stands out; after you listen to the first two tracks you know this album doesnt have anything much to offer; but it was just the beginning and even if it failed totally, one must understand that these guys were only 18 writing this material, just learning how to play and compose; i really appreciate how much they managed to improve as a band in a year... i mean how good is 'gothic' not to mention their later releases;

Album has some good ideas but the unpolished production and the cruddy approach leaves it deep in the mud.

However, I must say this, I like Holmes's growls even if I'm not very keen on this style of singing. What I also love on this record is the guitar tone. But the positives end there.

Hmph. I don't get the hate. I actually really enjoy this album. Our Saviour, Rotting Misery, etc. are all awesome songs.
