I finally picked this up yesterday. I love this album. All of the songs are great, to me. One of my favorites would have to be 'Fearless'. When I listened to it, it seemed like I had known the song for years. It was just really familiar to me.

I love this abum. It is probably the onlyl Pink Floyd album I listen to constantly. To me other Pink Floyd albums are good, but they are complex and get old after you listen to them a lot. I think this is Floyd's most straight forward album and one of their best. My fav song on this album goes in this order from best to worst, even though every song on this album is a 4/5 or higher. Okay this is how it goes One of these days, Echoes, San Tropez, Fearless, Seamus and A pillow of Winds. Seamus really isn't that bad if you listen to it a lot.

Good review, but I wouldn't say that this album fails to meet the same standards as their prior work. In some ways, it excels above and beyond their other albums. Echoes is a masterpiece all in it's own.

This is my favorite Floyd album, and I've listened to all of them hundreds of times.
I don't understand why people always rag on Seamus, it seems like the cool thing to do is slam it and call it Floyd's worst. Pink Floyd is deeply rooted in the blues. In fact, the band name comes from two delta blues musicians. Many of Gilmour's solos have a blues feel to them. With Seamus they are paying homage to their roots, and they do a great job of it if you ask me. I love the blues, and Seamus is a classic blues track. Having a dog howling along is brilliant as well; a crying dog almost perfectly captures the blues.
As you were arguing about earlier, Pink Floyd does play a version of Seamus during their Live at Pompeii concert called Mademoiselle Nobs. However, they did this concert AFTER Meddle was already released, so Seamus is NOT based on it. The reason for the name change is because of the dog, its name was Mademoiselle Nobs, the dog on the original track was named Seamus.
Meddle is easily one of Pink Floyd's greatest album, the only one I see as a contender is DSOTM.

Seamus is a very good song. Not the best song on the album, but it fits perfectly with the mood of the album and helps the flow.
I wasn't going to say anything else but you got my blood flowing. I don't like your review very much for one big reason: not only do you do a song by song analysis, but you do a critique of every part of every song. Every Pink Floyd album is meant to be taken as a whole. It's patently ridiculous to critique "the middle section" of Echoes. Would you critique the middle section of the Moonlight Sonata? It's also a good idea to get the song lyrics right when you do reviews.
I re-read your critique of Seamus, and you don't even say why you think it's a bad song. Saying exactly when the guitar comes in, and that there's a hint of piano is NOT reviewing the song. I said why I think it's a great song. This Message Edited On 03.29.06

I think this album is awsome. A very unique ablum in the Pink Floyd catalog. The only album I like more than this one would have to be Piper At the gates of Dawn.

i dont like seamus or san tropez that much, i guess the album could have done without those. but a pillow of winds, one of these days, and fearless are all outstanding tracks and really make up for the other two.
then of course, there's echoes which is the greatest song they ever recorded

The most forgotten and underated album of all time? I think so! There is a bit of crap to get through but this album is brilliant for the stuff these had been doing prior to releasing it and everything from One of these Days to Fearless and eventually Echoes- the only 23 minutes I can sit down to and be happy with.

i agree with the people before about this being an underated album. My three favorites on the album are One of These Days, Echoes, and Seamus. That's right. Seamus. You may think its a bad song, and that it doesn't fit Meddle, but its a good song, and it makes the album better and more unique because this is the only blues song on Meddle, and its got a great tune. Plus, its got another great guitar line by David Gilmour. Overall, its a great song. It's to bad that people can't come to enjoy some good music. But One of These Days and Echoes are just a bit better than Seamus.
Eh review(Seamus IS a good song). I give the album a 4.5/5.This Message Edited On 06.21.06
