not really doom though, is it? more desert rock. like kyuss. and i'd say this is heavier than kyuss.

I saw them live and they were really, really bad. I didn't like the album that much either, and wouldn't have seen them if they hadn't played just before Pelican. However, the sound was so incredible bad, you didn't get anything, every song sounded the same, the vocals were hardly hearable at all and well... I walked out after half of the show was over to drink a beer and return for Pelican's (pretty great) performance

It must have been the venue man. Cause I saw Torche open for boris. And they gave Boris a run for there money. Which few bands I have seen can do! Also no its not really doom at all. But it doesnt really try to be.This Message Edited On 12.05.08

mendigo, like a14d said, it could have been the venue, but i've also heard that, due to the fact these guys use something called a "bomb-string" (which i THINK is where you tune the E-string down a whole octave), they often have problems keeping the guitars in tune. dunno if maybe that had anything to do with it the night you saw them?

Chan doesn't get banned because he's hilarious and he writes half way decent reviews.

I don't really think it was the venue, as Pelican's sound was great (though during the first song the bass wasn't hearable at all, but they fixed it).

and a number of people that went to other shows during that tour had the same experience as me.

"actually, i should've mentioned that, the drumming is pretty impressive!"

Yeah their awesome live. My friends and I got to meet the drummer for torche when they came to tempe with clouds and boris. It was great, we had a smoke and one of the guitarist in the band who was also in cavity gave us his cd. really cool guys

Can't believe this mediocre album stole top spot on Decibels year end list.

while I do agree that this album did not deserve the number one spot in Decibel. Saying its mediocre is just wrong.

This a great Torche record, it is kind of their way of finding their new sound. It is too bad the one guitarist left, but I hope they continue making quality albums.
