Just got back from Best Buy. Had to get the special 20 dollar one because it looked so temtping. Needless to say, fun ride back home and converting me into an Opeth fanboy.

I passed on the special edition. $20 is too much. Although the bonus tracks are really good.

Solid review, but I think you totally missed the mark on Burden, especially considering that final acoustic passage.

Nah Burden is about 3 minutes too long and the end is atrocious.

I personally love Burden. One of my favorite tracks but the end is questionable. Well the album was 14 bucks stock and 6 bucks more wasn't a problem to me so yeah.

Tight review. My feelings more or less on it, although I loved Burden even the ending. Probably submit my review later.

I just listened to two songs on their myspace page, I was right, they are still garbage.
Too bad your garbage...
Anyways, this album really grew on me since I first heard it. Its probably going to end up in a 5, I absoutely love "Hex Omega"

@ Balls: Is the special packaging decent? I was looking at it and seemed a little flimsy. This Message Edited On 06.03.08

The special packaging didn't really do anything for me. I prefer the cover art for the normal edition. Who is the crazy face on the back of the album?

Tracks 1-5 are perfection, easily amongst my favourite Opeth work to date.
Hessian Peel and Hex Omega do tend to drag on a bit though.
3.8/5. So a 4 for the sake of argument.

I think that Hex Omega is the worst track on the album, though I do like the very end of it.
My favorites at the moment are Coil and The Lotus Eater. And I do love that Burden sounds like an arena rock ballad in some respects. It's great.

Really? I love that song through and through, but yes the ending is pure awesome. "Lotus Eater", is probably second for me, "Coil" really needs to be longer...

I can't find anything that is mediocre on this disc. Further proof that Opeth doesn't release poo.
Heir Apparent really does it for me on this album. The ferocity of the middle section is done so well. Intense stuff.

Everyone knows the end of Heir Apparent is where it's at.

this album is too "zzz" at points for me but it still has some gems, the first three tracks rule and so does hex omega

The Keyboard section in both "Locus Eater" and "Burden" are so awesome, I almost just wait for them them to show up now...btw, the ending of "Burden" to me is a good way to lead to the next song in my opinion, it gives it that journey to song to song feel(plus its really creepy at the very end of it).
