Fair enough, doesn't help that it's their most inaccessible work. I'm definately more of a 'new blood' fan of Diru, since Uroboros they've pretty much transformed into the best metal band alive for me. The exception though is Gauze, which I think is incredible and a Visual Kei classic. Need to get the DVD with every Gauze PV on it.

Don't get me wrong, their entire discography is incredibly solid, but I discovered them a while ago when Withering to Death was popular, so I started there and worked my way backwards. Caught them at a bunch of concerts during their first US tours and when Marrow of a Bone came out, then a couple years later with Uroboros. I even had a chance to meet a couple of the band members after a show, which was pretty cool.
Anyway - this live version of Embryo is one of my favorite Kyo/Diru performances. As far as I know he uses a lot of vocal effects now when singing live to supplement his screams, which is fair considering how many times he's shredded his vocal cords.

I'm pretty sure I missed any chance I had of seeing them live. I've been a fan since 2006/2007, but the only show I ever knew about in my area was cancelled, and their popularity in the US seems to waned considerably since the Otaku crowd has (mostly) jumped ship on them.

That live performance ruled, you're lucky as fuck to meet them. Shame I got on the band so late, after their next album they'll probably be done due to Kyo's vocals unless they do pure clean vox performances which would really disappoint me live. If I saw them during DSS era I would have lost my shit.

I want to see Uroboros and DSS materiel exclusively live but that won't ever happen haha.

More like a 2.3, everytime I try to get through this I just want to listen to Gauze more and more. Think Kyo's vox here is forced and corny, the type of lick/riff style of their middle career is starting to form which I don't like and the electronic elements don't help matters.

Mushi is awesome, but rest of the album isn't like that, I take?

@CalculatingInfinity What do you think of the three after this?
|

Nvm I looked, no rating for withering to death? The 3 for Vulgar makes me sad, but I can understand why one wouldn't like Marrow as much.

Get ready to go WTF on this: I consider Vulgar to be Diru's worst record, and I'm probably in the minority there. It's still enjoyable, don't get me wrong, though I don't come back to the album much aside from its singles and Obscure. Despite its Americanized metalcore style (I rarely get a nu-metal vibe from it, tbh) and how polarizing it is even by Diru standards, The Marrow of a Bone is the better release of the two. Admittedly, Vulgar has the superior compositions, but Marrow trumps it in terms of instrumentation and emotion.

Vulgar used to be my favorite Diru record for a while. I think it's because I liked the song "Amber" so much. It's still one of my favorite songs by them, but I think as a whole Vulgar isn't their best work.
As for Kisou, it's probably their most experimental record, I suppose. I can see why it would put off some fans. It's crazy how many different sounds the band has gone through since the very beginning.

Yes, and that only makes me even more curious about next album.

@jester: Vulgar I don't find awesome minus 3 songs. Wish they did amtospherics more, just the whole riff/lick style of their mid career I don't like at all. Gets boring fast. Withering I haven't made a full listen yet, just don't have the motivation atm. Minus The FINAL I just imagine it being a more lighter, accessible and boring version of Vulgar. Marrow I enjoy, serves a purpose and have some bangers but damn does it have some stinkers.
@FadedSun: I'd probably agree actually that this is their most experimental offering. It's incredible how much they've evolved, hell even Gauze to Macabre is pretty jarring.
