I recently got this and The Downward Spiral and upon a few listens of them both I can say that this is the better of the two. TDS just doesn't sound as good, I think. It's much harsher, whereas The Fragile is a more melodic side to things. I also disagreed with a lot of ratings in that review. The 'right' disc is just about on level with the 'left' disc. I don't seem to like Starfuckers, Inc. too much, though. Dunno why. I loved Into the Void and Where is Everybody.
I'm still thinking on a rating, but it deserves at least a four.

Ya I didn't like TDS that much at first but it just gets better each time I listen to it. I think I will like this considering I like trents softer pieces.

I've just got the album yesterday. Its is just... a masterpiece, hands down. Trent took a real change of direction, with pieces like LA MER and THE FRAIL. As i type this message, i am listening to THE GREAT BELOW.
5 star ultimately
Great review, But what is up with that stuuuuupid rating for Into The Void? I think you were a bit harsh with the rockier ones.

STARFUCKERS.INC is just a good rocker with a great shout along chorus and cool verses. Nothing to it. Its just great.

Angsty? More like angry. I love that song.

Yeah it's pretty good I suppose, but it does reek of Manson.
Anyways, the album itself seemed somewhat a little too ambitious for its own good in some areas, and unlike such classics like Mellon Collie and The Wall, this lacks serious consistency in terms of quality throughout, and instead of being experimental, I just see it as a bit of a mess, however I am willing to try and open my mind a bit more.
The Downward Spiral is SO much better though. One of the greatest albums of all time. Ever. Ever ever.

I still think this one kills Downward Spiral.

Really, the only flaw is that it's a little bloated. This is a masterpiece, though.
Just Like You Imagines, La Mer, and Even Deeper stand out for me, though...However, EVERY song is good. This Message Edited On 10.23.05

Th only songs I don't like are Pilgrimage and a couple on the second disc. Overall, I think the album is special because it has 23 songs that all come together into one display of emotion. Everything contributes to the defined feel of the album, and I wouldn't take out a single song if I had the option.
