yeah there's a fag kid who gave this a 1 and also gave 1's to a whole mess of other top 10 2008 albums except Fortress, which went from like #5 to #1  what a homosexualThis Message Edited On 06.28.08

I also feel that "Dismay" is underrated. That song has arguably the coolest clean vocals on the entire album. Also, I don't know what you guys are hearing but this guy's drum work is absolutely insane. Programming it with all of its intricacies must take forever. Thankfully no 7000000 bpm bass drum parts on this one though minus on the fecal rebellion. Good shot at album of the year definitely, and very good review!

There's still a few parts in here where the drumming sounds absolutely impossible (at least to me, but I'm not a drummer). Still, I think the drums on here are way better than any other Cochet project in the past, though that doesn't really say much considering some of the stuff he did in Unholy Matrimony.

I am a drummer and though I'm young and definitely need improvement using the double bass, I don't think 128th notes are possible unless you have more than 2 feet.

Dismay is bananas.

Fecal Rebellion and So Frail are the best though. This is still one of my fav (metal) albums of the year (along with Watershed and Shrouded Divine). But I've yet to hear Equilibrium's latest...

Those are my top 4 albums of the year dude.

Sagas

Gangrene

Watershed

Shrouded Divine

Fortress an Holographic Universe are fighting for 5th, going back and forth between them. Probably Fortress in the long run.

i'd have to say Fecal Rebellion and Une Existence tie for best song on the album. Fecal Rebellion has the most stuff going on in it, but Une Existence is just so damn tightly packaged. they're both amazing songs though. and they both have a focal point for the album; the spoken-word rant in Fecal, and the insanely long scream in Existence

i think Dismay is extremely underrated by most people who know this album. like someone else once said, first time i heard it i thought it was one of the album's weaker songs. then i read the lyrics and listened again; complete change of opinion. now i think it's the album's third best song, behind the aforementioned two

agreed on that too. just because it's programmed doesn't mean it's a bad fit; for that song especially, it's actually a perfect approach. the I AM CTHULU GOD OF DRUMS hyperblast sections are used sparingly and with intent; they illuminate intensity

There ARE drum parts on here that are impossible for any human to perform. For example, in 'Dismay', the blast beats sound like they have 2 snares instead of one while using the hi-hat at the same time. Unless he's a freak with 3 arms, there is no way can he pull this off. In short, I fully agree with this statement. Despite his programmed drumming being a problem for some, I absolutely love it. He fills in every single little crack with solid musianship!

I finally got around to listening to this last night; I had way too many albums stacked next to my computer that I got in the mail recently. I was simply blown away by the song 'The Fecal Rebellion'. I love how he shows restraint on those epic chords at the start of the song. He doesn't just try to smush as many instuments in as possible, but rather, lets the chords just resonate with a slower than usual percussion backing it up. Epic stuff! Unfortunately, the album sounds like it will wear off after 10 or so listens. This Message Edited On 07.16.08

It hasn't for me, pretty damn close to a 5, and my second favorite album this year behind Sagas.

Ok, I finally got this and I just ordered Sagas like two seconds ago. I think I'm good now.

the_wizard, first time i heard it, i had the same impression - awesome, but probably not listening.

however, that was several months ago and i still listen to it at least once a week. mirrorthrone's one of the few neo-classical metal acts that actually manage to deserve that genre description; with each repeated listen the genius behind it becomes all the more evident. but i'd imagine i could get tired of it if i listened too many times in too short a period of time - but that goes for every album ever made, really

^ agreed.

I've listened to it about once a week since getting it, I'm still finding new things in each song.

Also, I'm a little late, but yes Dismay is moving up on my list

I couldn't agree more!

Ftw, 'The Fecal Rebellion' destroys this album without a doubt.

the scream in Une Existence is another particular highlight. everytime i start listening to Fecal Rebellion now i start off thinking, ugh, not this melody again... i'm generally not into overly melodic metal but i stick it with it and i end up remembering just how great it is, intro melody and all. by the way, wizard, be sure to read the lyrics too. adds a whole dimension yet again, especially for Dismay and Fecal Rebellion(it makes you stop thinking it's a crappy title)
