Once this album has soaked in, it's very easy to become hooked. This is still the pinnacle of the entire genre for me.

I feel I need to give it more time before I can conjure up a proper rating, it is certainly not an album one can just ease into

Certainly not. I think first tracks have a large effect on how easy it is to get into an album and this album certainly has a dense heavy hitter to start the album. I love how the album is sandwiched by two very noisy tracks. It makes the album feel so whole.

I agree. I've yet to hear an industrial album groove so well yet remain so godamn bleak. This Message Edited On 02.01.09

I wouldn't call this "their finest". Sure convulsion is good but everything else isn't spectacularly unique. I'd say bites is skinny puppy's "finest album"

What? "Convulsion" is the weakest song on the album.

The staff haven't even reviewed Remission, Bites, Mind: The perpetual intercourse, or cleanse fold and manipulate. How can they call this their finest? I'd say bites is their finest.

That doesn't make any sense. Just because staff haven't reviewed those albums you've listed doesn't mean that they haven't heard them before. Say Bites is their finest, no one is stopping you.

Their early stuff like Bites is good but the variety of different sounds is a bit lacking.

If anybody is interested, Digital Dream Door has posted their opinion of the 100 greatest industrial acts. They're never spot on but I usually respect their choices. (A lot more than say, Rolling Stone). Obviously not seeing solo Ohgr on there is dissapointing.

If the only criteria is "greatest" and it doesn't really matter what their impact was on the genre, than there is no way that NIN should have been number one on the list. Also, Marilyn Manson at number 11? He probably shouldn't even make the list. Especially over Killing Joke and Front Line Assembly - the list is definitely suspect ;)

What a slap in the face to both of those amazing bands.

I was listening to this a few nights ago. Still amazing.

Believe me when I say this, I will give that album it's own worthy review.

well, the list has some merit even if a few inclusions are questionable. Brighter Death Now got a mention, which is elite.

That's what I mean. They always have some bad choices because they always respect popularity more than anything. But they usually know enough to make a good list. At the least their lists are a good way of finding new artists.

Oh yeah, there's definitely some good bands on this list. It's mostly the order that seems a bit "off". I'm glad to see Chemlab on there and a few others but Project Pitchfork should have been on there too, probably.

the thing about PP is that after Chakra:Red, their music became more like ebm. while their older stuff was industrial. to be honest i prefer ebm over industrial.

I have moods for both, actually. I prefer the older PP albums over their newer stuff though.

A band that started out as industrial (or harsh electro) that moved into making really good EBM is Informatik.

I like "Autonomous" from their debut and "Temporary" from their album coming out in September.

I'm listening to "Over" right now and it is really good. I just don't listen to Nymphomatik as much as their debut and Beyond so I couldn't remember it. Yeah, the new one is called Arena and will be out August 18 (I know I said September, but I just looked and I was wrong). I'll have a review of it out by the end of the week.
