"Coldplay released the unimpressive single "Speed of Sound" to kick off X&Y."

no.

the vocals on that song are not unimpressive. they alone make it more than 'unimpressive'

"Talk" is alright, slightly better than a song like "Daylight", the worst song on "A Rush of Blood".

Daylight was my third favorite song on A Rush of Blood. You have to remember that some songs appeal to different people, and can't be analyzed totally objectively

Also, there is a difference between a good album and a good Coldplay album. I'm willing to admit this is probably their worst album yet, but that doesn't mean that it's a bad album on its own right...

Of course, I can only go off what I see. But when looking at a song without using my opinion, there will always be songs that I find to be worse than others. In my eyes, Coldplay are good at ballads and anything else that they do is rarely good. Anything I write is going to be totally objective from my point of view. Does that mean when someone disagrees with what I write that I haven't been totally objective? No. I have written what I can see by judging the song without using my opinion.

I never once said it was bad. I said it was average

Nice new "new releases" feature by the way :thumb:

This album has grown on me.

It lacks a direct epic feel. but lets be honest. Coldplay have never been known for a direct sonic assault. They prever the more "subtle" approache.

Why does everyone hate Speed of Sound? Sure it sounds like Clocks, but try to think of it as a rework of it. I also think SOS has a stronger Chorus and bridge part.(IMO)

The album isn't bad at all. Calling it mediocre seems like such a waste when songs like Fix You, White Shadows,X&Y, and Twisted Logic go unheared. Give the album some time.

The lyrics on some songs are i agree clichè. but some lines in Fix You, What If, and Talk seem quite inspired (IMO)!

This is Coldplay at its purest. Sad, calm, beautiful, subtle. I think this album should be given another chance. There are too many good tracks to just throw it away.

4/5

I'm pretty sure one of the good songs is a Johnny Cash cover too.

Till Kingdom Come was a song written by Johnny Cash before he died. He never got a chance to record it, so Coldplay decided to record it as a bonus track on the album.

A rework is exactly how I think of it. What I would like to know is, how is this a good thing?

Mediocore does not mean bad. What are you talking about, with those songs going unheard? I've heard every song on the album many many times.

This is Coldplay at its purest.

I heartily disagree

What parts of this album are subtle? And what do you mean it should be given another chance?

There are too many good tracks to just throw it away.

Who is throwing it away?

I picked this album on opening day and I have to say there is nothing really special here. The vocals are beautiful and soothing but no groundbreaking tracks. I just love speed of sound though, just play that song while driving at night looking at the stars and it is just awesome. I'd give it a 3/5. Whats with NME and giving out lots of 8s and 9s to every cd?

Do you mean the Kraftwerk song? Or is there another Coldplay version?

hmm i dont know if its kraftwerk song or not but
the lyrics goes something like this
Under the great North star
Try to work out where you are
In the silence of the sea
I don't know where I'll be

In the future, in the past
Going nowhere... much too fast
When I go there, go with me
When I go there, go with me
