Great review, especially in context of Beck's previous work. Guero really doesn't sound like anything else but Beck.
But I'll go ahead and agree with some previous people that I just don't dig Black Tamborine. And Missing happens to be one of my favorite tracks, too; though I can see the vocals getting annoying to some. I'm also one of very few that doesn't like Hell Yes.
This album is so solid. Beck can really focus songs into albums.

By the way, he was born to Scientologist parents, he's not really orthodox as I understand it.

Missing not good? You need another listen and Black Tambourine is one of the crappier songs.
