Led Zeppelin III and Houses of the Holy are my favorite Zeppelin albums. Three is the most ecclectic of the I through 4 series. Their sound really mature's. A big reason why is attributed in Hammer of the God's, to the fact that they were writing a lot of acoustic stuff at Bron y'aur. This inspired them to work on their folk and classical side. 5outta5.

III is an amazing album - one of Zep's undisputed bests. It's just not as fondly remembered because its very eclectic, and its sandwiched between II (possibly their best album) and IV (their biggest selling album).

This is the best Led Zeppelin album... i have all their cds and both dvds and this cd is the greatest...Well all their cds are incredible and this one is barely above the rest, led zeppelin is my favorite band because of their music talent and great songs. Diversity is the key to music. If a group just played the same stuff over and over again, the same style of music, and if their was only one genre of music it would be boring. I for one, love everytype of music and im one of those people who listens to tupac then maybe some classical music then some rock then some punk because music is good for the soul and listening to varieties of music even if ur friends or family doesnt like it can really bring the true person in you out. This cd by far shows the greatest diversity in one album. Let me list the type of genres of style they use... Rock, Blues(lil bit of jazz), Country, Metal, Folk, and classical. All this just in this one cd. Since i belive the review of this cd was very poorly done im going to make my own...

1. Immigrant Song - A heavy rock metal song that is very well known. Robert Plant sings his heart out in this one with great lyrics about battle and vikings. The guitar riff is very catchy and its begins the cd well. 4.5/5

2. Friends - This song is one of my favorite folk/country songs. The acoustic guitar playing is very enjoyable to listen or play and the violins create great atomsphere as you can hear in the background the "ah" which brings a lil darkness to the song. The song has great meaning to it and is an uplifting song. It ends with a cool sound effect that mixes in great to the next song. 5/5

3. Celebration Day - The song is mixed in from friends and starts with a metal guitar that gets you into the feeling of the song right away. The main riff is catchy and the song brings a lil psychedelic type of music sorta like Pink Floyds music. The solo is quick but sounds awesome. Though i must say that this is my least favorite song on the album it still is good. 3.5/5

4. Since Ive Been Loving You - The best song on the album. This defines blues and jazz in one as its 7 minutes is full of great guitar playing and singing. This is my 2nd favorite led zeppelin out of the songs they made. Stairway being my first (i dont care if its been overplayed or overhyped cause i still love it and i listen to it only once and a while). The solo in since iv been loving you is greater than the stairway solo as it truly brings out soul. This is also my favorite song to watch Jimmy play on the DvD and i recommend you buy the dvds since they are way better than Blue Wild Angel (hendrix dvd, i have this one also and its good but when you watch it, you realize jimmy page is by far much better a quitarist than jimi hendrix). Since iv been loving you is one of the most moody and soothing songs i have ever heard as it really brings out emmotion. Overall this song beats almost any blue songs, unless you can post the name of a song that has better blues. 6/5 (really)

5. Out On The Tiles - This song rocks. Just a sweet rock song with some awesome guitar riffs and cool verses and chorus(All i need from you..part is very catchy and enjoyable) i would say this is another one of my fav songs because when im driving down the highway at night this song connects . 5/5

6. Gallows Pole - Ok this song requries you to open your music variety as its a very country/folk/classical song all put in ones. It is very different and makes you realize that led zeppelin cannot be categorized in a certain genre. When i hear this song it takes me away as i imagine the 16th and 17th century and a Sail boat full of sailors listening to a mate playing guitar for everyone to sing along with. This is a true sailor song and one to even dance to . 5/5

7. Tangerine - Incredible melody as its intro is one of my favorites. The guitar playing is immaculate and it really shows the mellow part of Robs singing. The lyrics are very deep and full of sadness. This song is very diverse as the two different guitars play two different styles of music. The acoustic playing very mellow and the electric schreeching like a metal song. 5/5

8. That the way - Another Very mellow song that shows more great guitar playing through mandolin, acoustic and electric. Its a very relaxing song and has a more eastern style of music from the electric guitar playing in the background which is my favorite part of the song hearing that electric guitar jam out blues. 3/5

9. Bron-Y-Aur Stomp - Wow, incredible guitar playing and the intro is amazing. The base and drums really kick in this song. Like alot of songs in this cd it is another folk song full of cool acoustic jamming. Its a song that u can snap or clap yours hands to and with rob. The singing is not the best but it goes very well along with the song.
4.5/5

10. Hats off to Roy - Cool sound effects but very strange singing by Rob. Like most of the songs the guitar playing is cool and the effects add a very hypnotic feeling to it. I really belive that they were trying to make some sorta of new music style or were just messing around as this song is very bizare but the ending is very respectable as its takes you out of this incredible album. 3/5

Overall this cd deserves a 4.5/5 as it is IMO the best cd they made because of its diversity and melodys that are very calming.

The reason i would rate this cd over their other cds is because.

1. Almost every song on this cd is enjoyable, you just need to expand your horizon in what you listen to music.

2. The other cds done by led zeppelin are great and i love almost everysong done by them except a few and they would be battle of evermore and when the levee breaks. I still think they are good just something that didnt flow well on their 4th cd.

3. The cd has so much spirit in it and is good to listen to whenever.

Overall, Led Zeppelin is the greatest in my opinion and really changed how the world looks at music. This album really represented what would come forth in the modern time we are in now.. as music now has diversed so much and so many different styles of music can found everywhere. No one really understood Zepp III because everyone was focused on Rock and Roll at the time and the album really was in a different direction. I hope you found this usefull and maybe some of you guys will listen to music in a different way.

An acoustic masterpiece (IMO).

And the artwork is pretty cool on the front of the cd... a bit like a commercially - driven form of Miro.

I'm actually listening to 3 at the moment..................Friends..................

I think Gallows Pole is perhaps a song that people over look as it has a fairly sleepy open chord introduction to the song, but I think the genius of theis song is the texture building, the jig style mandolin and bass as the song progresses are something you wouldn't expect from hearing the start of the song. I also love it because it's one of those songs that doesn't even require a chorus much like R.E.M'S losing my religion.

Great posts from all of you. This is one of my favorite Zep albums and I don't have much to add except maybe a few scattered totally unrelated thoughts and opinions.

When this record first came out Black Sabbath had a huge AM hit with "Paranoid" and Ozzy was asked what he thought of Zep III. He said that he absolutely loved Zeppelin but that he thought Zep III was awful because it had too much acoustic stuff on it and that they should go back to doing more heavy hard-rock stuff a la Zep II. Wonder what he thinks now?

The solo on "Since I've Been Loving You" apparently was done on some small solid state practice amp. Cool!

"Hats off to Roy Harper" is pretty much a Bukka White/Fred McDowell delta blues rip-off, (not that I'm putting it down; I mean this in the nicest way.). It's kinda interesting in it's own way. Blues fanatics probably won't like it but if you forget the fact that it is a rip-off you can appreciate it on it's own terms. I see it as a ingenious twist on the old heavy metal formula; instead of distorted electric guitars you get instead a distorted vocal and an acoustic guitar. I love Page's bottleneck playing on this. Still, like most of you I don't play this song much.

Led Zep really pulled off the acoustic sounds... Hangman (gallow's pole) is another good one - like give a wolf said b4 - that seems to be forgotten. It is a really great song - with a pretty simple riff (chordal structure) in it.

Am I the only person on the planet that likes "Hats Off to Roy Harper" but doesn't like "Immigrant Song"?

"Okay well thanks I guess I won't buy it. Now all I need is Coda and Zoso."

WTF? A Zeppelin fan without Zoso is like a Radiohead fan without OK Computer.

Hey good review! I'm a huge Zeppelin fan but i cant get into this album apart from Immigrant Song, Celebration Day and Since I'v Been Loving You. Songs like Hat's Off To Roy Harper realy annoy me. I would buy HOTH, overall better.

In My opinion Led Zeppelin III and Physcal Graffiti are the best albums because their sound is unique from the other albums and they have a mix of songs (they're not all heavy or all slow, etc.). My favourite song on this album would have to be Gallows Pole for it's amazing guitaring, that or Bron-Y-Aur Stomp for the same reason. I also liked Hats Of To (Roy) Harper becasue of the slide guitar in the start.
At this point I've heard all of Led Zeppelin's albums except for In Through The Out Door. Since most people didn't like Gallows Pole or Bron-Y-Aur Stomp or In Through The Out Door I think I'll go out and buy it.
Other than those disagreements of mine the review was well written.
