this, along with "Vikingligr Veldi," is absolutely, unquestionably my favorite album by Enslaved. it best represents the band's newer side, by combining their prog-rock explorations while retaining their black-metal intensity. all the good elements of the various newer Enslaved albums(Monumension's progressiveness, Ruun's accessibility, Isa's cohesiveness) are present, while their negative traits (Ruun barely had any metal elements left in it, Isa was repetitious and a little too flat for active listening, Monumension only had a few good songs in the first half after which the album was all over the place) were absent. the only fault is that the second half of the album fails to live up to the -simply, incredible- first half.

I just got this and RUUN. I already had ISA. Those three are all amazing. I'm gonna check the older stuff soon. The Dead Stare is an amazing song.

Their 3 best albums I must add. Their other stuff shows promise but isn't half as focused as these albums.

Ruun is lackluster. This is probably their best, barely ahead of Isa. Eld is in their top 3, used to be my favorite but it grew off me.

What? Every song is gold on that album. Their progressive elements really shine through while they still maintain their old sound. Perfect balance! This Message Edited On 07.08.08

Prog metal Enslaved> Viking Enslaved. Enslaved > most metal bands in existence.

Yeah prog metal enslaved > viking metal enslaved def.

If every song on this album was as perfect as "As Fire Swept Clean the Earth" this would probably be one of my favorite albums ever, but unfortunately no other song comes close =/ Queen of Night and ridicule Swarm are damn awesome though. The Crossing is a bit long and Havenless is boring imo, but that one song is enough to keep this at a 4.

Bump to a 4.5 for excellence. My favourite Enslaved album, which was a tough decision to make. 'Ridicule Swarm' alone makes this album almost perfect haha.

Why oh why have I not given myself the time to listen to this yet, even though I love their latest three albums? I really should.

Man, these last four albums have been remarkably consistent, not many bands could do this but Enslaved are incredible at what they do.

Opeth. There, I said it.

Maybe. I like Watshed, that's about it though. Vertebrae vs Watershed is a pretty epic battle but I have to say I'm more of an Enslaved fanboy than an Opeth fanboy.

Their whole career has been consistently great, there's no denying that.

Enslaved = Meh.... at least what I've heard by them so far. Need to listen to more, maybe I'll look into this.

I will look into this as well as Eld, but I own Vikingligr Veldi and Isa and they are both a waste of time.

Blaa Crysis. Actually Enslaved is vying for my #1 Norwegian band along with Ulver. They definitely destroy Emperor. Bold? Well I am the master of bold.

Nope, like I said I need to hear more of these guys to make a sure judgment but my terrible experiences with them have sort of hindered my desire to hear more.
