this album would get a five but the occasional sudden shift from the slow to really fast stops it. This technique works well in practice, but it flips the song around in less than a second. I have to check my iTunes everytime this happens to make sure the song didnt spontaneously change. ;)

I just heard this album. This has got to be one of the best black metal albums i have ever heard. I love that classical guitar in the songs. The atmosphere throughout this album is very dark and cool.

I don't think that Capitel IV is a filler at all - I think it's more of a mellow interlude leading up to the best song on the album. Capitel V is purely amazing and exhibit everything on the album like acoustics, clean guitar, choir-like vocals, harsh vocals, and mid-paced layered tremolo riffing. Legendary album by far.

This is very close to being a 5. Needs to sink in a bit more though.

Its really accesible. Probably the most accesible of the genre, most people could listen to it who have an open mind or whatever.

As long as they can look past production quality

I wouldn't say the production is to the point that it should take away from the album. It is kind of "muddy" sounding, but not to the point of being bad at all.

@711 - I believe myself to have an open mind. I listen to stuff like Mr.Bungle, Fantomas, some Gogol Bordello and Naked City, which was all really weird to me, at first, but they all grew on me eventually.

thanks for the replies. i'll give it a go then
