I got this album yesterday for my birthday. I haven't listened to it all yet but I will have by the end of today. So far it's very solid.

I really like all of Opeth's releases. Even thought this isn't their best, it is definitely superior to a lot of stuff bands release nowadays. Akerfeldt is such an awesome vocalist.

this is a great album, but doesnt quite match up to morningrise or blackwater park. still great tho.

I'm proving giving the album the lowest rating than any other person. I've heard a bunch of Opeth and a lot of it is really amazing but I felt like this CD was a little weaker than the stuff that I have heard before. I felt like I wasn't really listening to anything special.
What stood out to me was the instrumental tracks such as Requiem and the superbly long tracks. I wish that I would of bought a different Opeth album.

Give it time. It has a subtle charm to it. The instrumental aspect is simpler than later material, but still seems oddly intricate. I felt the same way you did at first but now I love this album to death.

this album is taking a supremely long time to grow on me...
i feel the sould is a bit thin compared to later albums: the bass sounds way too rough, the drums are all reverbed out (especially the toms) and the guitar lines, while far from boring, fail to induce any head-banging at all. oh and i dislike the acoustic guitar tone

Kinda both. I dont want to get into it because everybody has a varied opinion on their genre.
Black to topic, This album has little flow, but they have those parts you listen to over and over.

Though I prefer Opeth's later stuff, this album still deserves a spot in my heart.

best opeth album who agrees?

Surprisingly, their first album is one of my favorites. Like ShadowsFallen said, this album has a dreamlike quality, along with MAYH and Morningrise. 11:39 in In Mist She Was Standing = orgasm.

This album owns now.
Forest of October and Under the Weeping Moon straight up rock my world.

My favorite song off the album is with no doubt The Twilight is my Robe.
That song is perfect all the way through.
Something about the way it flows.. just moves me whenever I listen to it. And the quiet acoustic part at the end with Akerfeldt singing quietly is just beautiful.
Though I gotta say, Under the Weeping Moon is my least favorite off the album. It doesn't transition well. The beginning and the end are great, but it transitions into the acoustic parts poorly IMO.This Message Edited On 09.12.06

Both.
I will review this when I've given it more listens, as of now I like it a lot but it's nowhere near Morningrise.

It's a great album when you consider it was their first and Mikael's vocals are still top-notch even though they have progressed so much on later albums.
The intro to The Apostle In Triumph slays.

Yeah, it's good, but it's nowhere near their later stuff. For Opeth fans, this album would be the least necessary purchase.
