I still don't really like Punch and Judy, but that is a minor deterrent as far as I'm concerned. Simply an amazing album, and particularly rewarding are the melodies that seem more implied than anything, a great album to feel sorry for yourself to and excellent to sing along to while intoxicated.

If the s/t didn't have St. Ides Heaven this'd probably be better. But it's super-duper close.

Bottom line is Elliott was a genius.

Just upped this to a 5. This and XO are two of my favorite albums ever. The only track that I don't find particularly great is Cupid's Trick, and even that's not all that bad anyway. Other than that, I love pretty much all of them equally.

The best "chilling rainy day sort of melancholy" album ever. IMHO. Anyways this album has a number of very strong ties to memories with me, absolutely love it. The thinness of his voice makes him seem so vulnrable. Simply great.

"Speed Trials" and "Angeles" are fantastic. A must buy, all of his albums are.

I never liked what I heard of Elliott Smith before, but heard 'Angeles' in the film 'Paranoid Park' yesterday and instantly thought... what the hell was wrong with me!?

^haha
i was never that big into him until i was at a point in life where i related to the guy (in a way that didn't involve heroin)
that's kinda the very nature of niche artist i guess. im trying to think of a relevant example to compare this but im drawing a blank...
*checking itunes library* burial might be a good example i guess but heaven knows i'll be re-circumsized by others for that kinda comment
