They named it after the street.
...'East Hastings' (the track is named after a street in Vancouver's blighted Downtown Eastside)...

That's interesting, I've never been to Vancouver but I've heard it's nice there, I wonder why the song is so dark if it's named after a street?
Eh, I bet the song doesn't really have anything to do with the street, and they just thought it was a cool name. Or perhaps something happened while they were on that street that inspired them.

The song is so dark because although Vancouver is a really beautiful city, we have a really dark street called East Hastings. It's full of prostitutes, Heroin addicts, homeless people sleeping on the streets, the street reeks of urine, etc. Lot's of overdoses and drug addicts just shooting up on the streets. Don't get a bad impression though, it's just one bad street in the whole city.

So it's very reasonable for the song to sound very dark, now that I know they named it after the street.

This album is amazing. Anyone heard East Hastings on the UK movie 28 Days Later?

Perfect choice if you ask me.

I've heard about the song being in that movie, and I want to see it because I'm really curious as to how they utilize the amazing piece of music that is East Hastings. That's in my top five of all time.

Godspeed just owns, that's all there is to it.

They do own, but I haven't listend to this for a while. I feel the songs sometimes take forever to climax, so it's not something that I could listen to everyday.

This is pretty good, but not their best work. I'd place it after the Slow Riot For Zero New Kanada EP, myself. Definitely ahead of anything else I've heard by them though.

Have you heard Lift Your Skinny Fists? I'd rank it second of their full lengths.

Good choice on Slow Riot, too.

One of the more unique albums I've had the pleasure to listen to. Being a cello player myself, I love the full instrumentation this band uses. "Providence" is awesome with the 7/8 time and the pounding drums.

Also, I was playing along with "Dead Flag Blues" on guitar and it seems to me that it's in the key of F, not F#... weird

Godspeed is superior to everything. At least in post-rock.

Yeah I think it is. You can't go wrong with

THis band always seemed too pretentious for me.

However, recently I've been very open minded and I've been going through my less listened to albums to see why I don't like them.

I listened to this, and I don't even know why I didn't like them. Such a powerful album by unconventional means.

I was bouncing around between a 4.5 and a 5 when I [thought I had] finished listening. That last bit of music after the 5 minutes of silence really brought it home for me. Amazing record.

Amazing record.
Strange. It took me a good five to ten listens to really get into this. At first listen I thought this album was a complete snooze (with the exception of that violin attack on "East Hastings.) Still I think this is a 4 out of 5 simply because it's to boring.
