SynGates: If you liked The Gallery then you'd probably like Mind's I. It's similar, though not as good.

I've been wanting to pick up their entire discography for some time now, so I'll get it soon.

I really didn't care for this at all.

Their older stuff beats their newer stuff easily. Skydancer, Of Chaos And Eternal Night, The Gallery, and The Mind's I are classics.

This album bored the crap out of me. I'm not much of a metal fan in the first place, but this album seemed to be way too similar in terms of how the songs sounded. This and the newest release by Swallow The Sun didn't turn out how I expected them. I mean, sure, this band obviously has talent.
I just don't like their sound, if that's a good way to put it.This Message Edited On 12.06.07

DWitt, do you prefer the earlier stuff, or do you just not like DT in general?

This is the only stuff I've heard from them. I heard this when I first joined this site because I wanted to check out some of the highest rated stuff on the site, to get more material to listen to. I listened to the tracks posted here and they were good, but they were exactly the same. To me, that is the biggest downfall an album can have. I'll probably re-listen to this in the future, but I don't really have the spare time as of now to give this another fair chance.
My friends would really like these guys. They are big Amon Amarth, Dimmu Borgir, etc. fans and I might tell them about these guys. They aren't really my cup of tea though.

This isn't a classic...I think that honor goes to Character. This one makes too many missteps to be considered a classic. I will say though, this album has absolutely fantastic production.

Really good album. Not a 5 yet...probably wont either. But still great.

Dwitt - you're rarely gonna find great metal that doesn't sound monotonous - at least in my experience. Unearth is at the top of their genre, but their albums could easily be called the same song over and over. It's still pretty awesome though.

Oh, and I would also try some of their earlier albums - there are significant differences between this and earlier albums. If you can't stand similar songs though, I don't think there's anything from them that isn't so.

Now that I think about it it is hard to find truly diverse metal where all the songs sound loads different
|
| |
Well it's obvious the songs won't sound too different, because every band has the same sound. The good albums take this into account and try to spread the focus of the sound. On the otherhand, repetitive albums all sound the same.

Like I said, I couldn't really stand the recording quality and vocals
Thats why DT's new stuff will always be better. DT is like a fine wine, they became better with age.
On that generic line, your writing style is fantastic and easy to read. Perfect description of this album and probably the best review for this album so far. This album is starting to come around for me more when I listen to it, prior to when I got it back in May.

Even thought this is a great album I think out of their entire catalog The gallery would have to be considered a classic. The stlye on this album was already laid down on previous albums(Damage Done, Character) but the album that really set the bar for them and everyone else in the Gothenburg scene was Gallery. That album just doesn't let up and for melodeath is really diverse.

From what I've heard of DT's music, I'd have to say I agree with Dwitt. I'm a huge metal fan, but DT's songs all sound relatively similar even when compared to other metal bands. There's never any remarkable instrumental moments and not much songwriting diversity. The only song I've heard that I really enjoyed was The Wonders At Your Feet. Then again, I've only heard their newer stuff. I've been wanting to hear their old stuff for a while. As for this album, it's average.
Unearth is kinda the same way, but I don't like them either. This Message Edited On 12.07.07
