I'm fairly sure Porcelain was in an advert for a car as well, unless I'm thinking of a different song (by a different artist).
No, your right. It was used in a car commercial.

If I heard the album, I would get deja vu and name a commercial for each one, probably.

Hey breadman, I heard this album last night. Before reading the review about My weakness ( I didn't read your review completely cause I didnt remember all the tracks) I thought the same thing about feeling in heaven. And by the way, excellent review ( I read it completely now) the only thing I disagree with you is with South side, I love that song.
Other than that , good job.

Thanks man...I did give "South Side" a 4/5 though, that's a high rating.
True, true. I'm just sick of people lableing Moby as "Techno" when all that they've ever heard was the new stuff. Play and 18 were nothing even close the real "Techno", where as stuff like Early Underground IS more like the real stuff. Actually, its more like old school dance music. But bottom line, best Moby song ever: Party Time, good stuff.
I know that Moby isn't much like "true techno", but obviously techno is a huge part of what he does. I think I labeled it well.

I just rented it for the second time, just because of your review ;)
:p

Sorry, br3ad_man, but I have to disagree. Techno WAS a huge part of what he does. the closest you get to Techno off of play is Machete. The rest really became a different genre entirely. Now, I can't really define what that genre is, but it isn't really techno.
|
| |
meh, whatever
|
| |
Yeah. I listened to Play again last night and tried to figure out the genre. And the only thing I could think of, was that it was a bit more of a laid back Ambeint-ish Breakbeat kinda thing. The music is always calm and soothing (Ambeint-ish) and the constant use of nothing but sampels (Breakbeat). Except for Machete, which is more of a Tech House kind of thing.

This is an absolutely brilliant album, and I'd agree that it is one of the best of the '90s. There are so many songs on here that are genuinely beautiful, and, especially considering that Moby plays all the instruments on here, that makes it even better. Personally, I'd say this is essential listening for anyone who likes music, although it took a while for me to really appreciate this as much as it deserves. Great review as well, br3ad, one of your best.

Hmm...i'm not really a fan of this album. I think it drags horribly and some of the songs seem pretty uninspired. Just my opinion though
Good review by the way even if i do disagree :thumb:

^^"One of the best albums of the nineties, period."^^
Allow me to amend that. One of the best albums of all time, period. I give it a 5/5. The emotional content is so moving. Dude, I admire you a lot for being so open on your comments on My Weakness. I'm actually listening to that song right now, and there is a tear in my eye. Funnily enough, I though it was a South American choir. It always reminded me of that movie "The Mission" with Jeremy Irons. Fantastic review. I'll give you my vote, and my ass :naughty:

Good review, but one thing...you credit Moby with the vocals on Honey and Find My Baby. Actually, the vocals are samples he used from old gospel recordings. He sings on Porcelain and South Side, though. And one more thing. I don't know if you know this already, or if I read the review wrong or somthing, but you seem to think Moby wrote the lyrics to Run On (My favorite song on the disc). Actually, the lyrics came from an old gospel recording, though I think they were re-recorded. Of course, the lyrics are still great and probably meant a whole lot to Moby, but they're not his.
