My most fav Katatonia album. A must have of fans of Opeth, early My Dying Bride and progessive heavy music, especially black metal.
I'm not a fan of the albums after Brave Murder Day. I can see why fans of newer Katatonia stuff don't like the this one and vice-versa. That doesn't mean that this album deserves low ratings, because it could be highly valued by a different audience than fans of current Katatonia.

I just love the production on this one. Mighty Dan Swano did an amazing job back then. Everything is so crystal clear, and yet this is not by all means the kind of production you'll listen on more expansive records. One must really listen to understand this.
As for the music itself, Whitout God is the best thing here, and a classic Katatonia song, the rest is not bad, but its nothing to die for either.

i unno BMD and this one is pretty dam different, this has an almost folk like aura to it

Yeah, both albums are really different from each other. Even if Blackheim wrote all the stuff, there are so many diffrences in terms of songwrtting.
Besides the folk aura, I'd say this one is closer to Black metal, and Brave Murder day closer to death.
