I like it fairly mixed, because I don't get a lot of heaviness from the other styles I listen to (except thrash.)

I get my serving of heaviness from Black Metal. If I want melodic, I want it REALLY melodic.

I agree with your review, this album is one Hypocrisy I can't digest. But this is claimed to be Hypocrisy's most extreme album so... You're dead-on about the guitars, bass and vocals. But Unleash The Best and Deathrow will always remain as classic's to me.

Deathrow really is a fantastic song. Just a pity though to see it up against the rest of these songs.

Why did you rate it a 4 then?

I liked it better ''back then'' and I have never bothered to change my rating.
I should probably clarify that, I was referring to Riders Of The Plague in the sense that it was equally as repetitive as this album, I was saying that the Hypocrisy album wasn't catchy or melodic, not the Absence album.
Okay. That makes much more sense now. And I apologize for the thread-jacking but I had to defend my band. For you, it would be the equivalent of someone criticizing Storm of the Lights Bane. /pos vote
A good mixture of melodic and thrash is key for me. That is why I like From Your Grave so much. Almost each song started off thrash and then had some good, melodic riffs. A lot of the songs off From Your Grave followed this formula, and I loved it. It's funny that that this Hypocrisy album is so lame, that this has turned into an Absence thread. haha
I understand what you mean. You just made it sound like you dislike the album more than you actually do, bringing out The Absence fanboy in me. At least you enjoyed From Your Grave, so it's all good.

No problem at all dude, don't worry about it. I know I often get angry when people insult albums I love. I completely understand.

unfairest review i ever saw.
the first two songs on here are AWESOME, great thrash metal sound, awesome production, good vocals...
the rest of the album is pretty cool, too, at least a 3,5.

I discovered Hypocrisy pretty recently and I am in the process of listening to everything they've made from the very beginning. I thought I was crazy midway through "Into the Abyss" but then I bumped into this review and calmed down; I agree with everything the reviewer wrote. This is a really bad album, especially considering Hypocrisy's many other stuff they've written. Funny thing is I had only listened to "Deathrow" fron this album, so I went into it excited, expecting similar quality/melody. Probably why I was more disappointed than I should. But yea in any case, "Into the Abyss" thankfully isn't very representative of what Hypocrisy can produce. To anyone who hasn't listened to it, you'd be better off skipping this one.

Great band bump
Fair enough, same for me, their weakest LP. Not that bad neither. I am due for discog run, later this year.
So much stuff to dig before this.
Your last phrase is funny in a sense, agreed, because that can turn them off, hihihi.

I remember this being promoted as a masterpiece by mainstream Greek metal press, when it was released.
Bought because of the hype, enjoyed it while it was on, but oddly enough, I couldn’t remember a song from it afterwards.
