Ummmmm, Emperor's In The Nightside Eclipse is another good album to get into black metal with.

Bathory's "Blood Fire Death" ftw

Blood Fire Death would be extremely awkward for someone not used to black metal. I remember hearing some of the songs for the first time and being like
uhhhhhhhhhh

I agree. Bathory is for elite black metalers. :p

once again blackmilk, you are wrong. Satyricon did have some pretty good material in the old days but they will never par with Emperor.

"It may seem strange now that I praise a black metal classic such as Darkthrone's 'A Blaze In the Northern Sky', when only a few weeks ago I despised everything about them, not to mention I was into Hilary Duff about 2 years back."
I fell backwards off my chair laughing at that. Great review, not so solid of an album though. I will check this album out again in the future. Emperor's "Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk" and Enslaved's "Ruun" are excellent entry albums to BM.

Yes, The Shadowthrone and Dark Medieval Times are both ace.
