why not? it's as middle of the road as a review gets. i didnt even use any hyperbole here, except saying bob dylans voice sucked and sadly, it does.

You've made quite an impression on this site today.
This is a nice review.
...several throwaway tracks consisting of nonsensical LSD-trip lyrics set to unmelodic dissonant noise...

...useless psychedelic filler...
I'd say stuff like that was all part of the raw charm when it comes to Hendrix, but whatever, personal opinions and all thatThis Message Edited On 07.23.07

yup, it's all opinion.

next review: the 80's biggest embarrassment, reviewed in the form of a story.

This was actually a good review. However as BFHurricane asked why can you ignore bad lyrics on this album but abosolutely trash Nevermind over bad lyrics? So whats the deal is their an explanation or only bias? By the way Jimmy Page destroys Hendrix.

Ugghhhh.... i already answered bfhurricane. dont just read a post that you think makes a good point and then post a big "yeah, what they said!"
|
| |
it's also interesting how this is a good review, but all the others weren't. is everyone's definition of a "good review" a suck up? or a nice, clean, objective negative? "no, it personally did not like it, but you cannot deny that it is very good if you like crap, and so i will refuse to say that this is not a good album because" blah blah blah that sorta crap?
|
| |
Sorry I didn't read the answer. Also in short yes a good review is an objective review.
Hence why it's a review not a rant. Thats what makes this a good review, you say
how amazing Hendrix was at guitar and songwriting. But you also admit the lyrics
suck and that the LSD trippy parts are bad. This Message Edited On 07.23.07

Screw objectivity and screw nuance, especially when an album has been sold for years and years as something it isn't.
|
| |
This may be a user driven site but that shouldn't diminish its credibility. Thats why rants being past off as reviews are usually negged to hell and thats also why people like an objective reivew. It isn't the rule but you have to be a damn good reviewer to write a good rant worth listening to.
|
| |
This is a good review because its not as biased. You fail to "review" the other albums as well as this, your reviews were far too overshadowed by your automatic bias. This, however, is not.
If you were to claim that all classic rock was amazing and had worthwhile lyrics and musicianship, and that people who listened to the genre were great people, that would be along the same lines of what you insisted in your Black Sabbath review. Only completely opposite. Then I would say this would be a bad review. Some of that is actually ignored in this review
|
| |
The thing is, I don't care much if I get negged. It's interesting, but I don't care if I have a 0% approval. You know I could post positive reviews for every classic album, and get a 100% approval rating. Yeehaw, 100%! I'm a winner! What's the fun in that if I'm not provoking any thought, any discussion, and not causing anyone to question what the establishment has told us?

next review: the 80's biggest embarrassment, reviewed in the form of a story.
w00t!
|
| |
hahaha i have a single fan. it's great though.
|

This is a good review because its not as biased.
And now my point is made. That's the thing: the biases are there, dude. You just don't see them because you are busy agreeing with what I'm saying. I say things all throughout the review, such as "I can't describe it but there's a real magic there in the recording..." and give some lame follow up to "support" it. if it had instead said "i can't describe it but there's a real crappiness there, just a piss poor sound" you would be negging the review. this positive review proves that you people are biased against negative reviews of things that you like.
end of story.

Album Rating: 4.0
I would have to agree with the majority of the people who have commented on your reviews...your at your best when you are actually "reviewing" the album and not adding your own personal opinion of the album/genre.
Black Sabbath Review - 1.5
Nirvana Review - 2
The Beatles Review - 3

So when is the 80's embarrassment story coming?
|

its up now.

hyperbole your whole fight the system thing is getting kind of old, your not the first person to question Nirvanas greatness for example. I'm sure the intelligent of us who have objectively listened to these albums realized what makes them good and bad. Any human with a shred of dignity won't simply like an album because they're told it's great. Your reviews havn't provoked any revelations with anyone I've seen.

"hyperbole your whole fight the system thing is getting kind of old, your not the first person to question Nirvanas greatness for example."
true, when did i claim i was the only one?
" I'm sure the intelligent of us who have objectively listened to these albums realized what makes them good and bad. Any human with a shred of dignity won't simply like an album because they're told it's great."
so they think. its all in the subconsience.
" Your reviews havn't provoked any revelations with anyone I've seen."
yeah because people are usually so quick to admit they were wrong. it's just in human nature like that.
