One the most generic pieces of crap I've heard in a while. Excellent review, I just don't share your feelings on this album Confessed.

Lots of people (reviews, other metal sites and the people on them) have said that about Raintime's Flies and Lies. I completely disagree. To each their own. This Message Edited On 01.23.08

I don't understand how this is generic. I have never heard an album like this ever before.

I got a promotional copy of this and it was awful. Seriously, I've heard alot of metalcore bands and this is the worst of the worst from this genre of music IMO. All the breakdowns on this album have been done to death. I'm not disagreeing with anyone's opinion, I've just been exposed to too much of this crap.

There are hardly any breakdowns on the album though...

You're seriously confusing me. I can think of so many metalcore acts that are a lot, lot shittier than these guys.

Confessed,

I will give this another lister tonight when I'm done school. I will get back to you on this album. Its been about a month since I last heard it. I just remember this album being shat. I will post tomorrow.

If you thought it was awful before, I doubt your position on it will change much. You might give it, say, at most, 3, and confessed has it as a 4.5. The gap between tastes to create that kind of score separation simply can't be accounted for. This Message Edited On 01.23.08

I looked at your profile and saw you have Opeth's Still Life at 4.5. Same place I have it ;) Confessed has it as a 5, and I can very much understand why.

This is crap to you, to me and confessed, it's great, but guess what, when it comes down to it, this doesn't even really matter; we all love metal cause metal is boss This Message Edited On 01.23.08

Angelphoenix, you are my hero.

Confessed,

My mind is torn over this album. The polarity of song ranges between shat and awesome is insane. The first half of the album is just generic metalcore, especially some of the ideas they use in those songs have been done to death. Its not until song six that I was simply moved by the complex rhythms and well executed ideas. The last half of the album I was blown away. My final verdict is 3.5 simply because the first half of the album is god awful, but than turns around and completely blows my mind. I gave this a very thorough listen!

Fair enough wizard. Although I do enjoy the first five tracks. However, it's notable that the latter half of the album is undoubtedly more complex, especially rhythmically. Another thing that I really like about Ruin is how well the bass has been produced. It's thick and Ali's lines are pretty solid. For once a metalcore band with good bass. Which is a rarity.

Still, fave moments from the album have to be Buried at Sea (especially the tapping section), Heartless, Low and Save Me, which has to be one of the best tracks on the album and quite possibly the best track they've ever done besides The Darkest Tomb. By the way wizard, you should check out Nightmares anyway - it's not conventional metalcore. It's just as rhythmically complex as the latter half of Ruin - definitely listen to the recommendations I left on my review for it at least.

I found that tapping section in Buried at Sea to be overdone IMO. I've heard that same tap line in many songs before this. Still, song 6 is a beast and I fucking love the outro to that song. Sick melody and rhythm sections layered underneath. Nearly made my heart stop hahahaha. I will check out Nightmares if you say its like the latter half of the album. Right now, I have priorities on Neurosis's Enemy of the Sun, The Ocean's Precambrian, and V:28's Violution in rotation on my computer. Its been added to my list. Thanks again for making listen harder to this album.

Metalheads UNITE!!!

Been checking out Neurosis. That's some deep stuff man. I can see why Architects style isn't really you're thing, Neurosis is like the complete opposite. It's technically very simple, but sonically very complex. A small part of me was telling me it's boring, but that just isn't true. They create a very emotional, real-feeling aural landscape, it's intense.

Architects definitely sounds a lot like metalcore to me (All That Remains, Unearth, ect) which I know is a dealbreaker for alot of people, but the thing that really draws me to these guys is that, underneath, just past the music itself, and combined with the odd time signatures and some sweet shredding, is a sound that kicks metalcore's ass right into next week. Yeah, they have a really unique sound to them I reckon. I realised to that after listening to Nightmares for the first time. They just struck a chord with me.

Neurosis are almighty. A Sun That Never Sets is fantastic.

Don't get me wrong, I still listen to metalcore once in a while. I was just into it when it wasn't so trendy (not that these guys are). Neurosis = Bliss/ God (any other adjective that describes Great Success)
