far more honest review that what P4k and DiS are currently pining. good work

You pretty much summed up my thoughts on Icky Thump (the song) perfectly. Whenever I hear it, i feel like it should be really good but then I just can't stand it. Really great review.

This is a pretty strong release, a solid 4 for me.

This review is tainted... it's coming from someone who doesn't like The White Stripes.
I personally don't like reading biased reviews.

Yeah good review there Butler.
I like this album at the moment. It's in my nature to not like bands that don't care for bass guitars, but this is not bad. I'm not a Stripes fan (more indifferent I'd say) but this is good. A particularly strong opening section.

Title track is bitching.

Your review confuses me...you say your not a Stripes fan and then you claim some songs have the "classic stripes sound" and the reference to Fred Durst shredding?

This definitely is closer to their classic sound and he doesn't really need to be a fan to know that.
I think Jack White needs to relax with the annoying pseudo-steel solos.

Oh my god....I've just discovered that the beginning Rag and Bone sounds like the beginning of Hot For Teacher the riff is a little similar but the way there half laughing and half talking!
Did you really like Blue Orchid that much when it came out? It's such a repetitive song.
It's probably my favorite White Stripes song, even better than any song off the the Raconteurs album, and that is a really good album too.

Correction. I said I WAS A Stripes fan, until Elephant. And yes, some of the guitar solos here are sloppy, amatuerish, and have a horrible tone.
And you say you've listened to the the Stripes before? Jack Whites playing sounds no different than any other album.

Absolutely love it

I think the two Celtic songs are the best on the album and provide a great break from the blues rock on the album. As a whole, I liked Get Behind Me Satan a lot more because it didn't have the sloppy, overdone solos like this album has. I still enjoy this album though.

It's better than Get Behind Me Satan anyway.

I haven't been able to get through this album yet, because the first few tracks are just lame. When I put on the White Stripes, I want nonstop simple fun, and this album doesn't deliver that for me from the get go. It doesn't seem to deliver much else, either.

The only good songs on this are "Conquest," "Prickly Thorn, But Sweetly Worn" and "St. Andrew (This Battle is in the Air)".

im surprised so many people didn't like "Get Behind Me Satan"...
anyway this has a couple good songs, my fav being "You Don't Know..."

You let Jack experiment he cant just make White Blood Cells year and year over. Hes just taking different directions, which in my opinion is why the White Stripes are so good!
Little Cream Soda what a song!

I agree with your review of the album, but i disagree with your (supposed) reviews of Elephant and Get Behind me Satan. I think that Get Behind Me is one of the most creative albums of all time. But to each his own I guess well written review BTW.
