In The Presence of Enemies part 1 is the best song in the album IMO

Its still important to note...Which one of us DOESNT judge dream theater on a whole nother level to other bands? Is that really fair? If this was a new release from some NEW band, we would be foaming at the mouth lol.

no, we wouldn't. dream theater is good, but they aren't gods. i'll admit i find their discography to be consistently high quality but they aren't perfect.

really good review. if the album is half as good as you say it is i'll be one happy camper. constant motion sounded a bit dull, but if you say its one of the weaker tracks then thats good.

Constant Motions makes me want to stear clear of this album.

Doppel, remember, Constant Motion is NOT the track to judge this album by. Not that there's really a proper track to judge this album by at all. The album really needs to be viewed as a whole body.
If you must, download The Ministry Of Lost Souls, or In The Precense of Enemies (pt. 1 and 2) They're the best tracks. They might convince you to get this CD

You spelt exciting wrong in the summary bro, might want to change that now that it's on the front page.

Excellent stuff. Like many others, I wasn't over-keen on Constant Motion to start with, but it's growing on me. The rest of the album is very good, and In The Presence Of Enenies (both parts) is absolutely superb.
Not as good as Train of Thought (personal fav, absolutely loved the heavy style), Scenes From A Memory or Images and Words, but definitely on par with Awake I think. Great to see they improve from Octavarium, which I personally don't like ... at all. This Message Edited On 06.13.07

Ive decided I really like this, got it today. The musicianship is just as good as its ever been for DT, just some things hold this back (aka Constant Motion). But this is solid, Im happy with it.

I have it. Its the same thing for the audio disc, but it comes with a DVD with the making of the cd. I havent watched it yet, ill shoot this a post after i do.

I've watched it. It's pretty interesting if you're a musician. Plus, somehow at my HMV it was cheaper on the first day that the original. It doesn't show a whole lot about the actual writing, but shows a lot of the actual recording work.
If it's fairly cheap, I definitely recommend it. If it's like twice the price of the regualr, don't bother; it won't kill you to miss it, but if you can, it's worth it.

When I got it the original was 14 and the special was 17. it wasnt too hard of a decision to make. And ill definitely get around to watching it, its always mesmerizing to see the members of DT playing anything

yeah, it has the picture of a traffic light with ants on it i beluieve, and i think it's a slide in.
w00t im gonna see Dream Theater on August 22 at the Chevrolet Theater in Wallingford, CT! I got tickets for the front and center section, in like the 8th row back i think! Can't wait, hopefully they'll play some older stuff but i still love all their music.

The second half may be better than the first, tracks 7 and 8 are easily the bes on the album, and i'd already say are classic DT.

I downloaded the album before it came out (yes, i do it lots of times... I do buy the albums though so before judging me ask yourself, DO YOU?!?)
And the version I got from the web has NOTHING and I mean NOTHING to do with the Original! Where It came from I honestly don't know
Anyway, the downloaded version has a horrible production (flat sound) and the songs are a bit dull... almost like the same song over and over again (there are parts I still like).
The original... boy, what a GREAT A** Kickin' album! Their best since Six Degrees without a Doubt! Not too much Heavyness, Not too much PinkFloydness... just an Excellent Album that I really really like! (Bought it today, it was worth every € I paid)

I absolutely love this album. I've been a pretty devoted DT fan for ages, and this album impressed me. I don't understand people who knock on Systematic Chaos saying how it cannot compare to the old albums. Yes, the style is a bit different but Dream Theater is PROGRESSIVE rock after all. Why would a progressive rock band not progress their own style of music. Especially after being around as long as DT has.
Overall though, I love what DT has done in this album with its powerful strong riffs, but also melodic tunes. It's just 1 more DT masterpiece to grace my CD shelves.
Good review by the way.

This is a great album, a sure improvement on Octavarium (which I also really liked), but for sure not a classic. This album does have more than enough shining moments though.
