I really want this album now, but i think i may want to get it so i can tangibly have thge album. Every other DT cd i oiwn i actually own, i didnt download. I can download the cd now to have it for a field trip to six flags tomorrow, but i want to buy it also. Problem is, i dont know how long it would take me to get the album, and it may not even be in stock.

...i think i'll buy it now.

nice review btw, though i disagree, i love the dark eternal night. I may only have heard four songs in their full length on the album so far( forsaken, constant motion, and prophets of war are the other two) and i can say that it's definately my favorite out of the four.

This is a mediocre release. Best song is ITPOE Pt. 1. Ministry of Lost Souls has some okay parts as well.

Repentance is awful, as are Forsaken and PoW.

However, the instrumental sections on both Constant Motion and The Dark Eternal Night are great. The rest of Night sucks, while the chorus of Constant Motion is okay.

@ Jom. I gave IPOE part 1 a 10/10 because its a great track. As an opener for the album I dont think it was the best choice. I guess I should have been a little more clearer about it. I'll edit it in later.

@ Mike and Jom, the vocal effects you are referring to on TDEN arent really effects. Its just James and Mike doubling up and Mike doing a bit or harsher vocals for his part.

I just got the special edition of this cd in the mail today.

I agree with bodominflames, i really enjoy The Dark Eternal Night. The deep voiced guitar intro is really cool and when the drums kicks in it raises the hair on the back of my neck evertime.

The only song i really did not thouroughly enjoy on this album was Prophets of War, the intro did not catch my attentnion at all and the rest of the song was a little meh for me.

I can't imagine this being any different than their old stuff as far as wankery on guitar and bass, drums going too fast to recognize and unbearablely boring vocals.

i couldnt help it, i downloaded the album.

With one listen, i can say that this is a very good album, definately better than octavarium, as well as FII. I'll have to listen to it a bit more to find out if its better than ToT or not, but it's got some amazing songs. The Ministry of Lost Souls, In the PRescense of Enemies (both parts but mainly 2) Dark Eternal Night, and Repentance are all definately great. The 3 shortest songs are definately the three worst imo, but none of the songs are bad imo.

I'll stick with a 4 for my first listen.

I'm sorry but...

B/c there're one or two guitar solos in a song that take up about 1/10th of the song doesn't make it all bad. I strongly believe there's equal or more emotional or just creative guitarwork.

Bass hardly ever wanks.

Drums aren't very fast at all. C'mon, he has some flab on his arms yet plays 3 hour shows.

Obviously everyone's entitled to their opinions and that was mine. Hope it doesn't sound like I'm trying to start an online argument. As for this cd/review:

Constant Motion's chorus+prechorus < the rest of the song.

The Dark Eternal Night's guitar solo isn't long or bad enough to take off that much of an overall score compared to how long the instrumental section is. Outro sucked, though.

I think pretty much every track on here is at about 4, give or take. ItPoE, TDEN, Forsaken: give. MoLS, PoW, maybe Repentance: take.

Awake didnt have many guitar solos in it either but it turned out to be completely amazing if you ask me. One of my all time favorites. This album is the same, there arent as many guitar solos, but the emotion is fantastic.

This is an alright album. TMOLS and ITPOE Pt.1 are the best songs on the album. The rest has it's moments, but overall is pretty medicore, and TDEN and CM are just horrible. This Message Edited On 06.06.07

Great review dude! I loved it!

Only thing: albums is actually 80 minutes. :P

I agree with Shattered in saying that this is one of the most complete albums. Every song is amazing.

I disagree about TDEN - I, personally, like it very much. Great song. Will go OFF live!

Really cool album.

Too many effects from LaBrie, and he'll never be able to capture his voice back to the standard it was on ACOS or the Metropolis Pt 1 Atco demo (Check it out if u havent already). However, I think this is one of their most epic albums and one of their top 3 best (with SFAM and I&W).

TMOLS rules.
