Album Rating: 3.5
Menomena follow up their strangely fun & accessible - yet creative, moody & unconventional - debut LP 'I Am the Fun Blame Monster!' with a great release in 'Friend and Foe'. Unsurprisingly, the trio look to mature 2nd time around; improving their vocals, lyrics & composition, if sacrificing some of the beautiful piano melodies that highlighted their debut. It means this album is not as energetic & lacks some wow factor, but shines in its attention to detail & ability to control such a diverse range of instruments & musical styles. So while this may be a little step down in overall quality, it is a growth which bodes well for the future of this talented trio. Recommended Tracks: Boyscout'n, Rotten Hell, The Pelican & Wet and Rusting.
