I’m shocked by the fact this has less than 200 ratings on here. Album’s got a pretty well respected legacy and the documentary DVD that comes with my 10th anniversary reissue includes women of various backgrounds talking about how influential this album was on their lives. Chalk it up to the majority of this site’s more interested in metal for guitar oriented music I guess

I remember when I discovered this album on here six months ago it only had a 3.9, then a ton of people rated it highly and boosted the avg over a 4.

finally listened to this and its really great- reminded me of stories by pj harvey in that it had a powerful, raw vibe vocally and lyrically but still really clean instrumentation.
only con is that this ran a bit long for me, i couldve cut out 5-6 tracks to make it even more fantastic. its a shame she didnt go on to greater things after this.

Apparently Steve Albini appears in the 2008 redux doc. That's cool given his legendary article on the album.

Whip-Smart is so boring compared to this album. Don't know how she lost it so quickly.

Fair enough. It's quite a drastic change in style.

Indeed, but I don't mind some girly, radio-ready pop-rock.

Well after you have a classic under your belt there probably isn't much need to worry, since you'll always have that classic (looking at you, Nas).
