My band is covering Holy Wars...The Punishment Due for an upcoming show.

Anyways, I don't think I reallly enjoy this album that much. It's rated really highly, and I barely or never see any negative comments about RiP. To me, it's not that great, but still good. There's something about RiP, or Megadeth in general, that doesn't just grab me like a lot of other thrash bands do. I'm not saying this is a bad album, I'd give a 3/5 or so. There's definately some killer tracks, like Holy Wars.

Good reivew by teh way. :thumb:
It's a shame it's ****house! All Megadeth post-Rust in Peace is disgraceful. However, apparantly their new album is excellent. Chris Poland is back doing lead work!
Post Rust In Peace albums are excellent as well. They aren't as good as RIP but they are by no means disgraceful.

I finally found this album for sale at Best Buy, so of course I bought it. It's awesome, and I even like Mustaine's voice. The fact that both guitarists are so insanely skilled is just sickening, and the bass is actually audible (take that, Dave's old band!). I'm glad I picked this up.

The bass 'solo' in Take no Prisoners owns all.
Post Rust In Peace albums are excellent as well
Quite the contrary. Unless you like 'modern rock' or crappy, mainstream metal, you will hate all post RIP. Especially Risk.

Countdown's really good, granted not as good as RiP, but still quite nice.

I should have mentioned that the version of the album I got was a newly-remastered version with bonus tracks. I think this latest release of the album is the only reason it was ever stocked at my local Best Buy in the first place, so good for them. Here's the gist of it:

The songs are all demo versions. One of them is a different song (My Creation) that's only about two minutes long, and the others are demo versions of songs already appearing on the album (Holy Wars, Take No Prisoners, and Rust In Peace...Polaris).

The demos are virtually identical to the final versions except for a few key differences:

-The production. These songs haven't been cleaned up at all, and it's very raw.
-Dave Mustaine sounds wasted.
-Chris Poland is handling the lead guitar work, and his solos aren't anywhere near as impressive as Marty Friedman's.

That is all.

Well yeah Risk sucked and I didn't like Cryptic Writings much. But I like all the other albums.

Best Thrash album I have. I really need to get into Coroner, Dark Angel, ect. I can't explain how much this and Peace Sells changed my approach to guitar. I love every song except Lucretia, what an awful song, but one of Friedmans best solos. I'm really amazed that Dave could actually sing on Polaris, my favourite son to play. Excellant lyrics as well-Hanger, Polaris, Take No Prisoners, ect.

CTE is the most disappointing album I've bought. I'm intimidated to the point that I'll only look into Killings My Business, and So Good, So Far, So What. You never hear about these two, how are they?

Why doesn't anybody like Lucretia? I think that opening riff is awesome.

The riff is good, but it's Dave's worst singing melody, and his voice sounds too bad in that song. Also the riff in between verses is very simple, especially by Megadeth standards.

Well, I think "Tornado of Souls" has a very punk-ish palm-muted power-chord melody, right up until just before the solo. That doesn't really detract from it at all.
