no matter how good the feedback for this album, I am more than skeptical about it.

thats what bothers me. i've never really had an interest in these guys before, and all of a sudden i see all this good feedback for the album

Thats how I felt about the latest offering from Underoath, which I'm yet to check out. This is much the same.

"As he doesn’t have the throaty, heavy, scream of Ben he creates a frantic, panic like scream"
That's a really accurate way to describe it.
I just downloaded this and I'll have to disagree on one point - maybe it still needs to grow on me, but all the songs blend together for me. Deth Kult is very good, though. This album's lighter for FATA, though, than their other stuff. Maybe I'm wrong because I haven't heard "abandon your friends", but I do have all their other albums. All in all I'd say it's decent, written well and a good attempt at screaming, but it just sounds too soft for me for whatever reason.

Well, it's FATA, so no matter what it actually sounds like, it's automatically a 4. Wtf are you thinking Lew?

This band is so so so so so bad. I just listened to 4 tracks from this new album. I never
understand why people like this crap. It takes everything that makes bands like
Beloved, Shai Hulud, Hopesfall, or Misery Signals satisfying and cool, strips that away,
and skullfucks the remains with subpar musicianship and predictable
songwriting. The only interesting thing they can do is alternate between making any
4th chord in a 4-chord progression either a vii˚ chord a la As Cities Burn or My
Chemical Romance or a natural bVII. It's ridiculous. Shameful. This Message Edited On 05.29.07

What's with you 2 and following my comments and being bitchy about them...? Yeah, I like this album. I chose to give it a 4. o_o But it's still too soft. Maybe a 3.5 woulda been better. Not really a big deal.

i really dislike Francis voice, even the small parts he sang earlier were kinda annoying. Like Upsidedown said, whining/crying vocals dont impress me very much. Ben Perri was an awesome vocalist and this band had some really good songs on their older albums but this band died when he left...

Ben Perri was far from amazing. He had absolutely no range in his scream, and it got rather boring after awhile. This band has always struck me as mediocre, but from what I've heard from this, it's much better than anything they've done in the past.

Great review, kick ass album. I love on the offensive and pioneers. Too bad they're are paired up on tour with terrible bands: aiden and I am ghost.

Is this worth buying if I enjoyed their debut? Francis's whiny voice tends to grate on my nerves so if there is more singing than screaming on this I may not look at it.

I don't know about this. I finally got a copy of the album and while its much better than the stuff the did before (including TBYB, in my opinion), it still grows really tiresome and holds little replay value.
I will say tho, that Francis is a lot more interesting than Perry. Perry really just bored the shit out of me.

great review, great band, what else could you ask for.

I have been digging on this recently. Francis's whiny voice has lost its whine. and while i love TBYB and TFWL, his voice always made me cringe. This album has made his voice sound much better, much less whiny, and more like a frontman should sound. his screams aren't half bad either.
