Admittedly, I could put less barbs and venom in my criticisms, but then they're not as entertaining.
In this particular case, I think he deserves it though because he talk about how he doesn't mind criticism and feedback, but has done nothing but blatantly disregard it. I hate people who only make excuses for themselves.

Eccentric is a negative connotation, so it could be viewed as a bad thing. But by definition it means unconventional, and how Steerpike went about getting his point across is pretty eccentric. But he does it wonderfully so I'm not complaining.
