This album stinks from start to finish. It sounds so recycled from their past albums, and I cant stand the ballad type of songs they are trying to do. Thats just my opinion on the matter. Sorry if you disagree, but this album dissapointed me so much. War Within, Art of Balance, and Of One Blood were so tight compared to this 'overdone to death' type of thrash metal.

i dunno.. the softer-ish sound threw me off and it'll take a little getting used to but hey, why make the same album over and over?

I've listened to this at least twice now... still not sure what i fully think of the album though... it's good at some parts, and just kinda dull on others... so a 3.5 is gonna be my rate for now. It might go up with time, depends though. This Message Edited On 04.03.07

I liked The War Within quite a lot, this new one sounds promising. Personally I think they're one of the better USA metal bands, but can also see why others wouldn't like them.

That depends, what didn't you like about The War Within?
The songs seemed quite bland. I felt like there was nothing special about many of the songs except for Those Who Cannot Speak.

they may have toned down the heaviness, but i like the new melodic direction they've taken. favourite track so far is probably "burning the lives."
great review too, sums it up pretty well i think.

I am very disappointed in this album. I think it is a step backwards for this band. This bothers me because at one time Shadows Fall was fronting a comeback for American Metal. Oh well, I guess you win some and you lose some.

favourite track so far is probably "burning the lives." i think mine is either Forevermore, because it sounds like their older stuff, or Redemption, because its an awesome example of their new sound

Have you even listened to the riffs on this album? It won't hit you until you put on some headphones... there's a lot of subtlties in the mix and I happen to love the melodic direction they're going. And tell me "Failure Of The Devout" isn't metal up the ass OR one of the illest songs they've ever written.
SF are one of the top, if not top, American metal bands out now. Easily.

I definetly thought this was a step up from the War Within, the main reason being is because Brian finally improved his vocals and thats what always killed it for me. Although this is still no where as near as good as All That Remain's new album.

He didn't improve his vocals. If anything, they're the worst they've ever been. There's no edge anymore.

Although this is still no where as near as good as All That Remain's new album and that still does not touch Converge's New Record
