Neverfading: Your kidding nearly all their songs are about god.

A Christian band? Singing about God? ...In every song?! Blasphemy!

You can't use that against them, especially if they use it to proper effect. I get that you don't like the music, find it boring or hate the vocals, but faulting the band on choosing to sing about God is kind of pretentious. It may not make it accessible, but that shouldn't be a factor as to why it's bad.

That being said, if the lyrics were "God! You're awesome! You make cool flowers That blossom! Atheists suck! They should rot in Hell! Harry Potter should burn cause witches cast spells!" then, um, yeah, it'd suck, but the lyrics here are pretty note worthy in being about God without preaching. This Message Edited On 03.13.07

Yeah the lyrics have always been one of the strongest, if not the strongest, point of this band.

Like trust said they do a great job talking about god without preaching.

So if Neutral Milk Hotel sung about holocaust denial you'd still dig the dig the band?

Now you're just stretching it. You're digging into my point without grasping it. But in truth, probably, if it wasn't bashing it into my head that the Holocaust never happened. If they were stating it through lyrics like mewithoutYou's, I'd probably let it slide.

Then we have differing perceptions of music, a band lyrics is an integral part for me.

They do branch off occasionally, but even if they do focus on religious themes, that's their point as a band. Can't nail them for that.

If any band sang about holocaust denial, they would become my favorite band. Holocaust denial is exxtremly badass, it's up there with cutting down trees with my balls of steel

It's like you've got your metal bands and your punk bands and whatnot, but mewithoutYou, in my eyes, is a religious band before they are a post hardcore band, or however you want to describe their music.

They're post-hardcore in the evolved sense of the word, like spacey type music a la Glassjaw, In Pieces, Hopesfall. But not really in the traditional sense of the genre.

I never said lyrics aren't an integral part, it's just how they're written I look at. I wouldn't base it off the subject if it's written eloquently enough. You just seem to be nitpicking at the subject matter and not how well it's written. But to each his own. Supposedly I read into things too much. =D

this is very inspiring music. it's gotten me through a lot, and i'm not exactly friendly with religion. this music can apply to all people.

I don't think Aaron Weiss is telling anyone they should believe in God. I think he's just saying how much God means to HIM. I guess it's fine though if you're still 17 and listening to Cradle Of Filth. I mean you'd really have a tough time finding the right shirt at hot-topic if you listened to mewithoutYou....

This is something for you mewithoutYou fans to think about: I don't think Aaron is Christian. Not once have I heard him sing about Christ. Always God, and Allah from the old testament. I honestly think he is either Jewish, or Islamic.

His last name IS "Weiss" ; )
