Are hammer-ons and pull offs even that integral to a hardcore band? I certainly don't think so.

^So if a hardcore band tries it and doesn't succeed, wouldn't that detract from it? Like the SATs. If you don't answer a question, it doesn't count against you or for you.

That being said, I haven't heard this so I can't attest to any of it. Just saying.

The thing is trust, they don't do anything of the sort on this album. Its like hes criticizing for not putting a certain thing in that isn't typical for their type of music, which is sort of flawed logic.

EDIT: By the way, I checked this out this afternoon. Pretty solid hardcore stuff. I like how the singer is actually coherant. The gang vocals are pretty powerful too, along with some of the stellar rock-inspired riffing. I don't think this could even sort of be a 1. This Message Edited On 02.25.07

Oh and btw the drummer f*cking rules. His fills are never overdone and live, he's seamless, and probably the musical centerpoint of the band.

I was supposed to to see this band with Strike Anywhere a while back, but ended up not being able to go. From a few songs ive heard they're pretty good.

Your review was kinda bad but I wont neg you. Describe there sound more without comparing it to hardcore from back in the day, because its definatly not going to be the same.

New album soon from these guys. That'll be three releases in exactly three years... this was released exactly a year after their eponymous debut EP.

Hahaha, I did sound like I was in DC in the 80's. But seriously, what ive heard from This Is Hell is a far strech from any 80's hardcore. I look in to getting this.

I negged this because a) it's basically just unjust bashing, and b) it contains factual errors, like "the guitarists can't do hammer-on/pull-offs" when they in fact can and do on the album on several occasions.

I love this band, I've seen them multiple times, they put on a great live show. Real raw energy. The only thing I would've wanted on this album is more breakdowns. If you're in to some real haardcorre, then check out Soldiers from Long Island. It is Rick and Dan from This Is Hell. I personally like Soldiers better, but both are great.

WHY? WHY do people always say "this band needs more breakdowns"?

Not all hardcore bands make music completely unintelligable and predictable so that the 5 as'sholes in the crowd that want to "dance" can spin around and make it hard for everyone else to enjoy the show?

I really like This is Hell, they remind me of Comeback Kid alot, which is good. These kind of bands give me hope for this generation. Its actually fast and hard, like hardcore should be, instead of just slow chugging bullshit like 90% of "hxc" bands now a days do. This review is biased and uninformed.

I've always liked this album. Everyone can't like everything though. Good thing for me, I've never put even the slightest stock about what an internet persona has to say about music.

You said you put the cd in your car stereo and then took it straight back out? well judging by the complete trash you talk in this review it sounds like thats the only time you ever listened to the album.

This is an awful review and paints a really tainted, inaccurate picture of the band's music. I just hope people reading this aren't put off from giving This Is Hell a chance

good band but one question

why are you searching for some good metal cd's in a barnes and noble?

that just seems off to me

but whatever, they are a good band

Really really poor review on this one.

On a lighter note I'm pretty stoked for this album and their new song "Infected" is dope.

Permanence is fucking sick. Great album, especially considering that I don't care for straight up hardcore much.

Heh, sadly I bought this album in the premise of their name and the album artwork.

Unfortunate mistake.

this album has virtually no replay value for me, save for one or two tracks, but apart from those, it's completely void of pluses.
