It's not bad writing, your a good writer, I can see that. It just needs more detail, thats all.
My history teacher randomly speaks in French. Hes a weird guy. Cool though, me and my friends named our band after him. hahah

Ok, iluv, but isn't a album that recives a classic in the first place classic because its orriginal and basically incomparible to other albums?

Iluv: A reveiw is a reflection of personal opinion. In order to justify a rating, one must only convey the fact that they themselves belive in the rating. Everything else i say is just icing on the cake so that people understand where i'm comming from. Comparing the album to lesser albums would only diminish the effect i'm trying to create that this album is "unmatchable".
I'm may not be a established reveiwer, but my state-varsity debate skill still apply.

Review:a critical article or report, as in a periodical, on a book, play, recital, or the like; critique; evaluation
criticism imply careful examination of something, formulation of a judgment, and statement of the judgment, usually in written form. A review is a survey over a whole subject or division of it, or esp. an article making a critical reconsideration and summary of something written: a review of the latest book on Chaucer. A criticism is a judgment, usually in an article, either favorable or unfavorable or both: a criticism of a proposed plan. The words are interchanged when referring to motion pictures or theater, but review implies a somewhat less formal approach than criticism in referring to literary works: movie reviews; play reviews; book reviews.

I gave my "evaluation" and critiqued the album, thus fuffilling all obligations to meet the standards of a reveiw. Whether or not you agree with my opinion and whether or not you feel my opinion is suported is a moot point. Fact of the matter is I was able to convay my take on an album in a means that I saw efficient and nessicary.

Good Lord...
Let it go. Take the criticism and make it better next time.

If it makes you feel any better, I liked the review. A little vague, but to someone who hasn't heard the album it leaves a good mark. Yes, you could have expanded on your ideas and given specific examples to backup your classic rating, but this gets the job done to a far enough extent

I just want to prove that whether or not people enjoyed my review or found it useful, it is still a respectable reveiw that voices my opinion. Obviously i'm going to work on the criticism, but i don't need someone telling me what i did and did not do and what my opinions should and should not be.

It is clear, when listening to AWTEW, that you are in the presence of greatness. The opening intro, a short piano piece, lulls you into a sense of piece. At the end of those 50 seconds, you are suddenly void of any peace; thrust into the fast-paced, melodic, opening riff to All Nereids Beware. The song builds, and suddenly you are enthralled in the world that is Chiodos. Around you the music is spun, like a clever trap. While the piano, bass, and rhythm guitar all lay the foundations of your basic song, the heavily overdriven guitar creates a technical web of masterful riffing. A series of deep, thick drum riffs are layered under the previously described melody. All the while, a high-pitched, voice is heard wailing poetic lyrics; accompanied by cleverly placed screams. When the song comes to an end, you simply yearn for more.
You don't think that describing this song offers any type of incentive for someone to listen to this Cd? Regaurdless it's not my job to convice anyone. I simply put my opinions onto a web page so that others can read it and make informed decicians when purchasing music. My goal is not to force everyone to conform to my way of thinking. That my freind is an argument... i'm just writting a reveiw.

I agree, that's a great paragraph. It sure does hook ones interest to the album. The only problem is, that's a third of your review. That's the only song you describe, you packed a bunch of descriptions into one paragraph that could have been spread out and elaborated more by giving examples from different songs. It's easy to run out of things to say after crushing everything into a paragraph like that.

Then write soundoffs, no one can tell you what you can and cannot do on those.

True, i could have done more in depth reveiws of the individual songs. I mean, but who wants to read 13 (one for each song) grossly descriptive paragraphs that bassically examplify the same idea in each one? I'm thinking next reveiw i'll meet somwhere in the middle, citing a couple songs, but track by track reveiws are just redundent.
p.s.: going to sleep now.....Leave me some great critizism for when i wake up, iluv. This Message Edited On 02.08.07

We didn't say to do a track-by-track.
How many times did we say that? A lot.
We want you to build on the album and description, and to note a sound and note which sounds display that best.
That's not a track-by-track.
Stop antagonizing.

deceiving review! i think the problem is ignorance. it lacks accuracy and relativity to really good music.
|
| |
Hey trust, how do you do quotes again? I forgot.
|
| |
you said it's not an argument, it's a review. well, you're mistaken because it is an argument! a review makes an argument for a musical opinion. that is not disputable.

Ok. Its over. The dude went to sleep.
Phew.
