I remember you saying you were going to do this review when you replied to my "superb power metal" list so I was waiting for it. I think that this album and Hatebreeder are their best ones. The intro to Lake Bodom kicks so much ass.
Good review. This album started a revolution in metal.

Good work, but you never mentioned "Red Light In My Eyes Pt. 1" (or 2). Those are such bad-a*s tracks. Anyone who can take Mozart and incorporate it into such a sick tune gets respect from me. Red Light In My Eyes Pt. 1 is my second favourite song off this. I especially like the chorus and the spoken parts. But the instrumentals are pretty bitching
The intro to Lake Bodom kicks so much ***. Yes. :cool:This Message Edited On 01.14.07

To Acidicity: I really don't believe I am overstating the influence too much. I'm not saying that they are the greatest metal band ever or that this album is the greatest album, but COB have spawned many copycat bands. COB have also been critically acclaimed. So have Trivium, but COB actually brought an original, albeit, slightly repetitive sound to metal.
I think it is safe to say that COB will go down in history with bands like Pantera and Metallica in the future and will still be talked about 10-15 years down the road.

Perhaps. It'll be harder for them to influence the American scene as much, though. Being from Finland, or wherever.

In North America they're pretty well known for a metal band though, aren't they?

Definitely. For a metal band from Finland they're extremely well known. I was just saying not to the extent of Metallica and Pantera.

I seriously doubt this. Children of Bodom is virtually nonexistent compared to the popularity of those bands.

Well I think that Bodom is the biggest underground band out there, if that makes any sense at all.

Even if you don't like this album, it's really hard to say that this band is not highly influential and one of the biggest bands in metal at the moment. They are highly praised in Guitar World magazine (along with Trivium, which isn't saying much) and are very popular in America especially for a Finnish band.
COB are not my favorite band (I like them a lot, but I actually like Kalmah even better and they are often compared with each other), but I think they will still be remembered 10-15 years down the road. I think they will be considered a legendary metal band. Remember that Metallica was not extremely popular until The Black Album and now Master of Puppets is looked upon as a metal classic.

I also have a hard time following the lyrics in this album. The only official lyrics even printed in the booklet are "Touch Like an Angel of Death"s lyrics, which Shadows said in his review basically sums up "the most fucked up situation you can be in, when you love and hate someone at the same time." And being since the other vocals are made up on the spot, they probably dont have a real significant message, but still impressive for on the spot.

this was my favorite COB album. good stuff.

For a debut album this was very well put together...very technical at times...but still in your face and awesome. The incorporation of Jannes keyboard skills really enhance Bodoms sound and give it a kind of individualistic feel to it....but yes Alexis vocals can be rather..."funny" at times i.e. Red Light In My Eyes.....but overall great album...right up there next to Hatebreeder

Ok, I just saw this, and I dont know what is going on here. Was there someone else who was named 'syn' that was infamous here or something? Cuz im pretty sure my comment wasnt worthy of getting flamed. So yeah can anyone clear this up.

There was a guy named synystyr, or something like that and he did a lot of lame stuff and made a lot of alt. accounts with "syn" in them and people hated him and stuff.

Oh thanks, well is there any possible way that you could tell me the secret as of how to change my name? I've been meaning to change it anyways, as I have now realized naming myself after a musician on a music site was a bad decision. And I dont want to get flamed any more.

Go to the forums, scroll down the page, you'll see a thing that says "Sputnik Community", click that, then near the top of that page you'll see a thread where you can report problems and stuff, click on that, then tell one of the mods what you'd like your name to be changed to and ask them to change it.
