I hate Metallica too, so you can scrap that strategy. And even if they were ripping off a band that doesn't suck (ie Savatage), derivative rehashing of other people's music = sucks.

to be honest, I never heard Trivium until a couple of weeks ago into my buddy's car and I didn't really mind it.

I know, i'm just saying that the music geekdom of this site tends to dominate the criticism of this band away from reality.
I mean, the majority of people who listen to trivium simply do not give a fuck about originality. They just like riffs (and there's nothing wrong with that).

And I get what you're saying about the fans, and if they want to buy this stuff, far be it from me to stop them. But the idea of just plagiarising all your material sits in my stomach like a brick.

This album isn't absolutely horrible. There's a few songs I really like, and some that just make me gag. Musically, these guys play very well. I just think they had a great future in metalcore, and they just threw that away and used this album as more of a marketing tool (aka they sold out). but still some great listens overall.

Well, it's nice that Heafy stopped all of that annoying screaming and off-key singing, but...unfortunately, not even that was able to save the band because, really, when it comes down to it, their music is horribly generic and predictable. I gave this band another chance but I'm afraid I just can't like them.

Not a bad review, not that i can say much, having only one full review, but i found it didnt flow very well, and the writing was childish in places. Not being a prick just throwing it out there. And I agree that the album does sound a lot like Metallica's stuff and its probally becuase theyre the only band Kirk listens to, so the want to return the favour. Other than the obvious similarities its a good album but ascendancy was better

i dont know whos worse, dragonforce or trivium, DF may be very talented but i dont want to hear songs that are just over the top where theres no riffs, just solos and annoying vocals but at least they are doing something original unlike trivium
