I don't see this album as a complete abomination, but it's still not good. He worked with the best he could get his hands on in prison.

I cleared the negative vote as well, so fear not. It was from someone who didn't even comment in the review. This Message Edited On 01.09.07

This sounds horrible, but it made me want to check out more Burzum at the same time. Not this album, though.

Oh, I didnt need it to be cleared or anything, but still. I think that even if it was the best he could do at the time, it's still bad.

People that neg good reviews are just being stupid fanboys. They know that it's supposed to be about the quality of the review not whether or not you agree. They are just immature jerks.

I heard some stuff from this album and it honestly wasn't nearly as bad as I expected after reading this review. I actually thought the samples that I heard were pretty good. Sure, it's not normal Burzum, but his synth work is awesome and always has been.

Did Varg record these albums while he was in prison O.o?

^^ Yeah. Both of his ambient albums under the name Burzum were due to prison restrictions.

Yeah, if memory serves correct didn't he do all of the prison albums by just using a computer and a keyboard program?

This album isn't that bad, I jus't can't stand hearing 40 minutes of it. Btw, my Det som En Gang Var review is written as if it was his first year of prison, but I have to be really sure, didn't he go to prison in 1993?

He was convicted in 1993, but he recorded Det som En, Hvis and Filosofem before hand. They were just released way late. This and Hliðskjálf are the only albums he actually recorded in prison.

I've never heard anything from Hliðskjálf... is it any good?

Compared to this, yes.

Compared to everything else? Not so much.

Well, I don't think it will give you any laughs. This is only judging by the thirty second samples I heard for each song, though. From what I heard, the album just sounds like a bunch of keyboard samples. It didn't sound like black metal at all, but the samples weren't all that bad. Some sounded pretty good, imo. I haven't heard the most of the album, though, so there may be laughable parts that are really cheesy, but what I heard wasn't bad by any means.
