"Summary: Depeche Mode at the height of their powers - a dark, brooding masterpiece of swirling electronica and alternative stadium anthems"
Perfect summary. 5/5 on this one. The sound is amazing!

Apparently Martin Gore is supposed to sing lead on Sweetest Perfection, but I just hear Dave Gahan.

There's a lot of distorted bass effects on the chorus, which might explain it, given Dave's baritone. It's an unusually murky song for Martin to sing. Also, Dave adds backing vocals to the last chorus.

Yeah, I like that last chorus. Their voices must be pretty similar though, I can't hear a clear distinction. I heard Gore sings lead on another few of their songs, I should listen and compare.
edit: listened to a few, and his Gore's singing is indeed a lot different there.

Strangely, as a huge Depeche Mode fan since the age of 14 (28 now), i've never considered Violator to be their best record, that title belongs to Devotion. The four sublime singles (especially Personal Jesus) aside, there are a couple of clunkers, "Sweetest Perfection" is a passable track but its out of place following the brilliant "World In My Eyes". I've always felt that the b-side "Dangerous" should have made the cut. My other gripe is with "Blue Dress", again its passable but at the same time a bit dull coming after the exellent "Policy Of Truth". Both "Halo" and "Waiting For The Night" are superb though. So on reflection, Violator is a superb Depeche Mode record, just not as perfect as its often made out to be.
