Nice review. I wish there were more bands like Zeppelin...and more people around today with the brain capacity to appreciate real music. This album is fantastic in my opion. The "Whole Lotta Love" on it is just awesome. The spontaneous magic on any Zeppelin stage was and is unparalleled. Fantastic 6/5.

I love their short songs but I find their 25 minute epic jam sessions to be really boring. There just comes a point where a song is just too long.

DVD is a lot better.
Has anyone seen the huge lunger that someone in the audience has?

I think it rules. I love how they seem to get off time in the middle of jimmy's solo in "Immigrant Song" and then seconds later fall right back in. Some serious improvisational skills.

As someone else mentioned...The CD collection lacks in comparison to the DVD.
Maybe we will see HTWWW pt II containing what was left out ala the Box set II.

Plant really sings poorly at the start of this album, Like on Immigrant Song, Page is quite sloppy as well. I dunno if they have 'serious improvisation skills' in Immigrant Song, seems to me like poor performance.
It gets so much better toeards the end though!!! The Ocean is amazing.

You can't see it much on this album but Jimmy Page isn't that consitstant live, some if his solos are really sloppy. He does however make up for it with his riffs. The DVD kicks ass and so does this. This Message Edited On 04.16.06

This is a damn good album but some of the songs tend to drag on wayyy to long. "Moby Dick" does not need to be 20min long. For God sakes the studio version was asinine enough.

Whoever thinks that LZ could not improvise is either high or naive.
Just listen to the Whole Lotta Love middle sections where they play a few good oldies Zep Style. Even on the DVD they go off a few times.
AND whoever questions Jimmy Page's playing should be bitch-slapped back into realty. The man did it in the studio like no-one else and he did it live very well indeed. How can anyone question what they themselves could never do ?
He did it live without much else but some basic tools. No fancy mega boutique pedals and amps. Soemtimes it was solid state amps that he used live because the Marshalls were crapping out !
It;s Rock & Roll ! It's supposed to be rough sometimes ! I hate live stuff that sounds too perfect ala the Eagles .

Metallicaman I remember a week or two ago you were flippin' out over all these bands and being a "fanboy". He likes the band, he stated his opinion who cares? He didn't say "OMG LOL LED ZEP IS DA BES #1 U R A LOOSER IF U DON LIK THEM LOL"

The solos were great, but I think everyone needs to realize that Robert Plant can't sing worth crap live. He skips EVERY high note, and it takes away a lot of the energy in the song. Other than Plant (did I mention, exept for the hairy chest he looks like a girl?) Zepplin is All #1. ANd FU to anyone who thinks I'm a fanboy. I'm just stating a fact. Hell LZ isn't even in my personnal top 10. I just know they're the best.

I don't think it counts if it's the greatest band ever.

Hunter, If you've ever listened to "Since I've Been Loving You" live, he takes more high notes than on the original version. Hell he does that alot. Which leads me to believe you don't know what your talking about. Your opinion though so if it works for you.

I saw them in 77 at MSG but was seated too far away and was too f`d up to remember much except that it sounded good and we had a good time. The album The Song Remains the SAme is not that great compared to this collection and the DVD HTWW really shows that LZ were able to do great live show. It`s not easy to make studio music like theirs with all the guitar layers and such and then put it on stage without any trickery other than John Paul Jones playing bass pedal keys while he played other instruments. The DVD is proof of the pudding for me. Now when I listen to HTWW I can visualize them playing the songs.
Plant killed his voice with smoking cigarettes but back then he could still hit the notes. Page even said that in their live shows they would use different keys for some songs becuase it was easier on Plants voice on tour to do so.
I`m done and I`m gone from here , Thanks for the chit chat !
