isn't King Kong a Daniel Johnston song?

Yeah. I don't know the original though.

So, i noticed that on this, theres a song call fall of troy, and on fall of troy's doppleganger, theres a song called tom waits. Is there a story behind that?! Im really curious because the two of these artists are like, miles apart in terms of genre, and age, and alot of other things

A lot of bands have influences which you wouldn't think they would. So maybe they are just paying tribute to each other. Or maybe just a coincedence.

Waits' song is about the death of someone named Troy though, so it's not necessarily a tribute, but who knows... (I mean, calling a song 'Tom Waits' is definitely a tribute)
But I've been wondering about this myself. Could anyone clarify?

Its mind blowing how good he is.

I can't get over his voice. Sounds like a train crashed into a pile of gravel. A bit inaccessible.
I agree. I respect him though for what he does.

How do you not fall in love with "Heigh Ho".

I love Road to Peace personally, but this is both the greatest b-sides and triple disk album ive ever seen.

Tom Waits is a GENIUS and this album is nothing short of a masterpiece.
Good review btw.

I really can't get into this. I tried though
|

Is this worth 40 bucks?
|

As long as you've got no problem with his voice, he's great.
Sepstrup's reviews were very good. The guy needs to get back here

I don't like it. Maybe I don't get it, and to be quite honest, I'm fine with that.
It's not his voice, that doesn't really bother me (I mean, I listen to death metal).
It's just that the vast majority of his music just sounds like a lot of random noises with random nonsensical poetry spoken over it. I'll be the first one to detract from people who come on to metal forums and say "it's just screaming, anyone could do that!", but I honestly feel that given the average american kitchen and an 8-track recorder, anyone could have made this album.
Edit: And before anyone gives me any crap for coming in here and trolling to bring the rating down, I have heard this whole album several times, and this is my valid opinion. This Message Edited On 10.31.07

this was my second waits album and from orphans i plunged into the abyss. ive got about 6 albums or so now and theyre all amazing in their own light. but for those of you asking if this is A) worth the money, and B) a good place to start; the answer is yes to both. no doubt.

What about the second disc, Bawlers? It has a lot of melody and fairly standard instrumentation.
In hindsight, this album is still phenomenal. It has many of his strongest tracks, and it's great, eclectic collection. It probably isn't the best starting place though. Rain Dogs is usually a good bet, and much more accessible than many of these songs.

Thanks. I've been contemplating a comeback. This Message Edited On 11.10.07
