the single is catchy if generic, and from the songs I've heard he seems better than your average nickelback/creed/etc boring mainstream "hard rock" clone, but that's not saying much. This still pretty much sucks giant balls. This Message Edited On 02.10.07

"from the songs I've heard"
So you haven't listened to the whole CD.

like you have to listen to the whole CD to tell that every song is going to be the same made-for-radio snoozefest? Maybe if he showed any inspiration or creativity in the songs I DID listen to I'd give the rest of the album the time of day.
The people who will dig this album will be the people who think shit like nickelback, creed, 3 doors down, etc. is good. For what he does, he does it better than those bands, which is why I'm giving this a 1.5 instead of a 1. But it's still nothing I'd want to ever subject myself to willingly.

^I've heard a few At the Drive-In and Mars Volta songs and didn't like them, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't like the rest, so I'm gonna go ahead and give all their albums a 1.5.

this is defnitely the definition of generic. but i think if u look at it from a pop point of view, this is alright.
i use to root for him like crazy on AI. I still think his voice is pretty strong.
it's catchy and good for easy listening i guess heh.

Your review is ridiculous. Give the guy some credit. He's got a hell of a voice and is a decent song writer. So maybe it's not the most original album ever made, but who cares?? It's a solid, well produced album that millions of people will like and he'll make his money. Good for him. Actors, musicians, and even athletes are discovered somehow. What does it matter if it happens to be on a pop-music-reality TV show? It seems that with a lot of you who are trashing this album believe that the bigger the star, the worse the musician and unless they're some underground/indie band, they're no good. He must be doing something right to get the radio play and platinum record. Maybe you're jealous Tyler?? Keep playing your french horn and get discovered at the next Varieties competition.

But Chris hasn't paid his dues enough in the biz to get the credit he is getting. The contract and the band was handed over to him with every intention of it becoming "platinum" due to his American Idol run. Granted he has a very good voice, but he needs time to grow as a musician, and bandmates to catch serious bonds with in order to make ear catching music.
|
| |
How do you define "pay his dues?" I don't know about you, but I think that Chris is the very definition. He didn't wake up one day, decide he wanted to be a singer and run to the nearest Idol audition. The dude has been writing songs since his teen years and had his own band before he joined Idol. He had a dream to make it big like every other musician...he just had a different path than other rockers. You can call the music on his first album generic or unoriginal, but you can't deny that it is ear catching.

I play the euphonium, thanks.

I like Chris's voice and kind of the song "Home," (a lot of cruddy lyrics, though) but generic is the best description of the whole CD.
Save your money for Kelly Clarkson's this summer for some good pop rock. Not the dullsfest you'll get with this.

Yes, it's incredibly generic and unoriginal. But I will say it's pretty enjoyable, catchy, and somewhat heavy - much more so than anything another AI contestant would do. I gave a 3, but at the least I say it gets a 2.5, which says "average" next to it.

I see that this is a pretty old thread, but I just have to say that all you people with so much negativity toward Chris Daughtry are pretty ridiculous. Why so much animosity? The guy has talent. His voice is amazing. I will admit that I am slightly partial to some of the stuff he recorded with Absent Element, but I thought he took American Idol to a completely new level and I think that his album is really good. I'm sure you all try so hard to shun anything that does not qualify as part of the "hardcore" lifestyle you adhere to, so you never saw him on American Idol, or saw his interactions with fans and his family. If he's so stuck up, I'm really curious to see where you saw evidence of that, because it wasn't on the show. As for turning down Fuel's offer...it sounds to me like he didn't want to have things handed to him more than American Idol already provides, and he wanted to have some freedom to build his own career. Just a thought. Get a life, bitches.

LOL! The "solo" in It's Not Over is a joke.
True that. This album is possibly the worst mainstream album I've heard in a long time. His voice is suitable for the music he sings for; perfect for generic ass rock.
darkblue, welcome to the site. I would have to say that there really aren't "old threads" per se, it really doesn't matter because you can't be held back on posting freely on any album you want to. Also, your last little comment there really won't be taken kindly here, just so you know. Read around first.

Seems to be alot of guilty pleasure towards this guy. I can see why, It's Not Over is such a catchy tune. Very reflective of his bald head.

Personally I think you used the word generic about fifty times too many. Get a new word. Daughtry is not the best out there. But I would definately say it's pretty good. The drum beats are very simple, but they sound good. And "What about now" the soft piano ballad, was probably the best song on the album. Great song.

Lol, very true. The sound is about as generic and boring as Nickleback
