its probably more likely that everyone who was desperate to have some reactionary take are trying to shout above everyone else, everywhere outside sput and rym seems to be hyping it up

ill reserve my own judgement though til i tackle it tomorrow

nah man, album is his worst imo

my coveted essex groupchat have differing opinions on that but the consensus is it's either a little bit better than damn or worse which is levels below kendrick's best

plus rym overhype everything new hip hop to fuck these days so that not being hyped there says a fair bit tbf

butt.

"We Cry Together" is one of the worst things I've ever heard, what a terrible day to have ears

Yeah, the new one is really good. Not sure why people wanted/expected another TPAB. MM&BS is honestly the exact direction I hoped he'd go.

Just reading the comments here im kinda getting that vibe, where it’s a new Kendrick and everyone is expecting it to be TPaB or GKMC 2.0.

It not being gkmc or tpab is not the reason. It's just a extremely generic water down mainstream commercial hip hop album. I love Kendrick. This ain't it.

Silent Hill is the only one I really don’t like because it’s boring af, We Cry Together should have been 3 minutes long max, but every other song has at least some redeeming quality

New one is not generic at all to my ears. Just don't understand that take.

God the chorus on Purple Hearts is such an ear worm.

But yeah second listen through after some sleep really helped. It’s not GKMC or TPAB , but still has a ton of value. I think the shock of some of the creative differences compared to his other albums put people off, but I’m happy for Kendrick. He clearly had some divisive ideas but as a mid-30s man, he can’t stay stuck.

I appreciate the effort he puts in, regardless of what it results in.
