I understand it, but that doesn't mean I like it

I remember having a prolonged talk with an acquaintance about whether Something in the Way sucks or not. I opted for the former.
I dig it now, oddly enough the reason behind that is the cover version by Avatar.

One of the most important and pivotal albums in history. Not a lot else comes close.

Maybe shamefully my top 5 most influential for me (excluding the already mentioned) in the ‘90s would probably be:
1. Radiohead - Paranoid Android
2. Metallica - The Unforgiven
3. Korn - Blind
4. Tool - Stinkfist
5. Fear Factory - Replica

I feel the same way about Nirvana that I do about Quentin Tarantino.
I respect their place in history and the impact they had on those that came after but I prefer everything that influences them much more

If we are talking about how it shaped musical tastes I’d have to have a long think but if we are talking about solely having a personal impactful influence and what it meant at the time upon release I’ll go with.
1. Nirvana - Lithium
2. Radiohead - Exit Music
3. James - Sit Down
4. Pearl Jam - Alive
5. KLF - 3AM Eternal
6. Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm
7. Massive Attack - Unfinished Sympathy
8. Blur - Chemical World
9. Blind Melon - Change
10. Stone Roses - Love Spreads

I watched a lot of music videos in the 90s but when you actually come to recall them I struggled a bit.
The only really memorable Radiohead one was Paranoid Android for me…you had No Surprises water bowl one too I guess but not sure that was something I enjoyed watching !
For Nirvana I could only recall Teen Spirit and Heart Shaped Box in any major detail.

The five I mentioned were definitely ‘heh, that’s different’ (other than Metallica, already was into them).
Korn dominated 95, Tool 96 and Radiohead 97. Fear Factory I just found the drumming style really intriguing.

I still recall a lot of music videos from TRL, I specifically remember my sister on the couch watching the video for 19-2000 by the Gorillaz and asking her “what show is this?.” Also the Paranoid Android video always comes to mind anytime I hear it.

The older I get the more I realise Drain You is easily one of their best songs
