how do you justify such a score? Opeth's music is unique, well written and consistent up to watershed. Probably one of the most forward thinking bands of the early 2000's. No one sounded like them at the time, even now, despite being hugely influential :P

recent stuff is boring, and not really the direction the band should have gone in, but pre-2008 stuff is still super monumental.

Everything up until Watershed was phenomenal. There is no doubt that they were absolute masters of their craft. Just a shame they kind of fell off the rails and chose to go in a more boring and stale direction with their last three or so albums.

Not necessarily untouchable. There were other bands, especially in the early to mid-2000s, who were matching Opeth. They just weren't as long-lived.
